any suggestions on a bait shop around there?  Grand St. in Alameda the best option?
Two live bait shops, (not sure how good they are)

San Mateo - Sun Valley Bait and Tackle - 415-343-6837
Alameda - Central Bait and Tackle - 510-522-6731

Well, I am going fishing. It will drive me nuts if I don't. So, I guess I will head out to the Oak airport and launch there. The tide will still be a good one and maybe there won't be as much debris.

Sorry for the late changes in plans, but the latest news regarding debris in San Pablo doesn't look good.  I only wish I could see it for myself to see how bad it really is.  To play it safe, I'm going with my plan "B" which is the Oakland Airport.  I should be there around 8am.

Two bait shops to try are:

Marina Liquors & Bait Shop. (510) 357-2494 - 2260 Marina Blvd, San Leandro, CA
I believe they open at 6 or 7am.

Central Bait & Tackle.  641 Central Ave, Alameda, CA 94501 (510) 522-6731
These guys keep wacky hours.  Call first.

I spoke to Eric "eyeatbay" and he's switching to the Oakland Airport too.  I'm going to work from 3 to 7:30 am, and from there, I'll try to call Freddie, Joel, and BobN to let them know there are alternative plans available.  This sucks.  Now, we're going to have a split group.  Good luck to those who go to Buck's.  For their sake, I hope the reports are wrong.

Crap ...

Eric (KzReelRods) let us know what you're doing. I'm with the Santa Rosa crowd so I'm following you and that includes staying home if you're not going out.

I'm pretty frustrated.  I have no real desire to make the trip from santa cruz and spend the gas money for unfishable conditions.

Agghh.  I don't know diddly about oakland either.....

I think I'm gonna sit this one out.

I'm going to swing by Western Boat and get bait, ask them what they know about debris and make a decision from there.  I'll swing by Buck's and pow-wow with anyone that shows up there before heading to Oakland (if that is what we do).

I have a gut feel that I'll wind up heading to the Oakland airport as well.

I've seen multiple reports now on Coastside of tule debris near the pumphouse to the extent that you have to clean your line every 5 to 10 minutes.  However, I've also seen reports of fish caught in those conditions... so it's a bit of a crap shoot.  I'd hate to spend all that effort getting out to the Shell Bank only to have a major debris problem.

I talked to a buddy last night (Wizard) who was about 1/2 between rat rock and pumphouse yesterday, and he said that he only had a few taps- and had to clean lines every 10 min or so.  Apparently there were logs, mats of tule grass, and just loads of small junks of weeds to foul the lines.

His thoughts were that southbay and/or paradise area might help- or much closer into shore- out of the main delta current.
