Nice to meet you guys out there,

After we left Otter talked me into hitting up a spot futher up the coast but despite the additional 3 hours on the water we still went home empty handed. Did meet a real cool shore fisherman who told us some tales of 5' bat rays and huge octopus caught poke poling when he was a kid.

The night before my wife mentioned a Frito Misto (sp?) recipe she was going to use on the squid I was going to catch. Superstition made me mention that perhaps it would be better not to expect anything ... sure enough the only squid I saw was the bait from Ranch 99 market and we went home with less than we started with.

Still a great day on the water, met some interesting people, learned some new techniques and fished a new location. Photos show what MB looked like to me after 0 hours of sleep and what it looked like later after my head cleared.

Thanks for the Barracuda & WSB  photos, I didn't get a chance to see them while I was there and Sharky wheres the thresher? Missed that too.

Cheers

-Tsuri

Nothing like sharing the bounty with the family.  Monday was slow but I caught enough for dinner with family.  Everyone like the baracuda.  I was surprised how good it was grilled.  So, if any of you guys catch any baracuda this friday and you don't want to eat it let me know.  It was better than the halibut I caught in SF bay.

I like 'cuda.  sweet and mild.  I read that in the 20's and 30's it was actually a food fish of choice here in Socal.

It was a beautiful morning, but no WSB except seen or heard of except for the one pictured above.  It may all be winding down for now.  Hopefully, they'll be back.

Hooking that thresher was my big thrill for the day.  It went airborne 4 times and tailed the across the surface at lightning speeds.  I took at least 20 minutes to land -- long enough for Sharky to paddle across from the other side to take some pics before I released it.  I'm sure he'll post the pic when he gets a chance.
... and here's that pic....

Chuck,
Glad to hear you released that beautiful shark for someone else to catch and release too someday.  I hope anyways.  Too bad we didn't have a video of you fighting it.  Are you going out this weekend?

As far as sharks go, I think threshers are the cutest.  If you've ever looked into their puppy dog eyes, you'll know what I mean.  But don't let those eyes fool ya....  I think they're, pound per pound, the hardest fighting and most fun NorCal fish to catch.  I can't help but be nice to 'em.

Oh,

Thanks for the photo of the Thresher, very nice and love the action shot as well. Cuda grilled good to know, any prep secrets, bleed them or put on ice? Sauce?

Looks tasty,
