I am sorry to hear about your dilemma. There are alot of people feeling the pinch right now and with Christmas coming it can really seem out of control. I have been following this thread seeing what might be said and know this, I have no advice for you at all. A man has to do what he thinks necessary sometimes for the good of his family. You are smart and can make decisions. Options will arise to see you through difficulties.Stay positive and remember some have had to make sacrifices for the common good. Good luck. If you have to sell your kayak I want you to know that whenever you come up to Sonoma County to fish you can stop at my house in Petaluma and take my scupper for the day or the weekend. Craig

WOW
my 2c
Sell the fishtank
sell the fish individually first (many shops will buy them at about 50% of market rate)--I got $25 for a few Koi the other day....
sell unused fishing rods (I just sold a fly rod Ive had for yours)

dont sell the yak...the re-up costs are just too high...

Hang in there

Damn Jeff, that sucks. I hope you pull through without having to sell the yak.

Tote had some good advice:
And don't think of how much you can get for the kayak; think of how much it will cost you to replace it.

Seriously, it will cost a heck of a lot more than $550 to replace. But if you absolutely HAD to sell that yak, you should list it for $800 on the SF Bay craigslist.

If you sell now, there's a lot of other folks in the same position and there's not  a lot of money around.  So, you'll be selling low and buying back high (because everyone else will be buying back at the same time).

If you can figure out something else, try to avoid it.  But sell if you must.  Your family's well being is more important than a plastic boat.

Good Luck

Selling my yak is never going to be an option.

Ditto.

Don't do it, Jeff.

Jeff:

Sorry to hear about your situation.

I am not sure what you currently do, or what you want to do, but it may be helpful to post here. There maybe someone around here who may be able to help.

Also, someone pointed me to www.indeed.com.  It's a seach engine of search engines for jobs. I found it pretty helpful.

Hi Jeff:

I had the same problem when I re-located from Albion to Sunnyvale. I had to sell all of my Toys :smt044
I try not to become too attached to my gear but, I still
have a good feeling inside for "Old Blue".
I'll buy your Yak with the option to buy it back.
                                                                  Good Luck

If you are serious about selling I would buy it.  Would you throw in the seat?

Pete

I lost my job this year, and it really sucks, man.  Take care.

Now I have two yaks and "looking forward" to a 3-month rockfish season.  I am not sure I am a buyer at this point.   Having been unemployed for a year now, I understand why you have to do what you do.  I hate to buck the trend of the other posts, but you CAN always buy a yak later.  Pay your rent, pay your mortgage, pay your TAXES and take care of your family.  Yes it keeps you sane but those bills can kill you, I know.  If you are ever in southern Mendo county (Gualala) we definitely have a spare kayak for you, man.
