This was a great thread to read while sipping my morning coffee at my desk.

I'm a diver, so I'm always in an open cell 2 piece suit (non-farmer john). I can say that the two piece makes it pretty easy to drop trow in the yak... stability is key. I've only ever once had to drop a water log without the kayak... that meant full on dropping of pants while in the water.... that was the 2nd worst poo of my life. haha.

Also, if you're interested in getting some zippers or mods made to your dry suit, hit up Critter at Otter Bay Wetsuits. She's been around forever and does quality work for a fair price. Usually about a 2 week leadtime.

I believe her name is Cricket not Critter  :smt044

I had a custom suit made by her about 25 years ago.

bahahaha right you are. ohhhh don't tell her.... I have another friend named critter.... all these animal nick names got me trippin!

I don't have anything to contribute about conditions when suited up on a kayak.  but my "extreme" method for dealing with a sensitive bowel, is to fast the day before fishing.... this way i can shit myself empty the day before fishing, or maybe just have a small BM the morning of.

I've heard some wading fishermen like to take immodium to stop themselves up for the day.  but then they need laxatives to unplug afterwards...

On that note, I never eat dinner after 6p the day before a dive.

When you're diving to depths like 40-70 feet, there is a lot of pressure on the bowels which makes it even more sensitive. Nothing worse than needing to go while you're in the water!

The last 2 times that I went out fishing, I got hungry and cheated my plan by eating lunch...  and ruined my days of fishing by delaying my morning start sitting on the toilet.   :poti

next time I'll drink a smoothie for lunch.  hate to waste a rare opportunity to go fishing due to my own lack of willpower

the night before I have a sensible dinner, and very little alcohol to drink.
The morning of, only 1 small cup of coffee for me and maybe 1/2 cup of granola or a single fried egg. Just to have the bare minimum of caffeine to be awake at whatever-horrid-hour, and some protein for my body to work on. Usually an energy bar around 10am  (or whenever the fish aren't biting) to keep the blood sugar level.

I've not had probs in this arena thankfully, since peeing on a kayak is enough of a trial for me. I use a red (peligro, don't drink out of that one) nalgene bottle and so far so good.

A few years back I took my 70 YO FIL out on a charter trip and we had to be up at like 4am or something. I made us 2 short cups of coffee and a couple eggs. He suggested all the way to the dock how we should have had donuts and tall coffees. I said "we'll save the calories for the beer when the trip is over". I was as good as my word and we had a great time.
This thread is a good one in that a lot of times I think people in general can get swept up in the excitement of fishing and not always pay attention to how your body reacts.

After reading this thread I realize that I have never been as grateful for my clockwork digestive system as I should have been. Cup of coffee at 4AM and by the time I hit the coves around 530 I'm ready to roll.

If you have any vicodin left over from your last injury/surgery/dental work that should keep things in place until your ff/ss batteries die. Probably not a good habit to get into though.
