Wow, what an amazing sight that must've been.
Yeah.  It was.  We literally stood in awe.  Seeing that thing chomp down and thrash was loco.  There was so much action out there.  Like 5-10 seals we're circling around  ~50 yrds away from the action and the birds were diving like crazy.  The ranger was also seemed surprised at what he witnessed... Said he hasn't ever seen that in his yrs on the job.  I'll never forget it and I'm sure my boys won't either.  Great stuff!  I'm ready for fishing season!

Theres no sharks after January, by February 1st they pack up and leave.  They arnt  back till june.  How am i supposed to dive marin county if they dont follow the schedule.

Just a determined seagull colt.

And we just keep telling ourselves  they are all gone.

I am sure you will end up seeing one on the drone.  That would be cool.

I would like to get a drone shot at some point, they tend to be very active when the seals make a run of the beach around first light.
I have had luck with my cellphone spotting this massive harbor seal, he looked to friendly so i called it a day.

Has anyone (besides Kirk Lombard) encountered a GWS while on the kayak?

I have not had my kayak long enough to go out in the summertime. This sh*t makes me nervous.

We watched one do a full breach out of the water with a seal in its mouth. Close encounter as well less then forty yards. Most blood ive ever seen before. We watched in awe for several minutues was pretty amazing. The others that were out paddling with us high tailed it to the kelp beds. My son and I stayed and watched till it disappeared. Tried to get some shots with the camera it all just happened to fast. We were right in front of the aquarium in Monterey. 100 fow.

I didn't know Kirk had an encounter. But I DO know about 7 or 8 attacks on kayak fishermen between Cambria and Pigeon Pt within the last 10yrs. I haven't seen one during my ~300 ocean kayak trips though.

You should check out the chart for ano nuevo.  Tomales has dinky amounts in comparison.:smt006

Looks like they both have the same amount of tracked sharks and if you look at the numbers a lot of the same sharks are hitting both locations within pretty short periods of time.
