The kayak is made from petroleum products.

Winner - Winner, Chicken Dinner!

Though I respect your appreciation for the environment, there are FAR greater environmental impacts that all of us have on the lakes, river & oceans every single day that shadow the possible negative effects a small touch up cleaning using WD-40 followed by a water soluble cleaner has to the same waters.

Almost thought they were going to use it as a shark shield.....

He's not talking about spraying it directly into the water.  He's talking about spot cleaning with it.  Do we need to bust out a chemistry class lesson?  Lo .
Pollutants on the yak are likely to end up as pollutants in the water. To each his own.

Are you directing this towards the WD40 statement or general cleaning supplies?

WD-40. Unless cleaned off it will probably end up in the water. Not a huge problem in the overall scheme of things. Just saying, I wouldn't want an oil slick around my kayak.

That's funny.  :smt044

I hope the DFG doesn't outlaw kayaks too!  :smt006

Damnit, I came here specifically to say Magic Eraser! ...now I feel totally thunderstruck...haha
But seriously, I use those Magic Erasers for everything!!  Maybe spray it down with simple green first, too.

Sounds like you got done what you needed to get done, that's good.  My late suggestion is, Simple green.  I'm surprised each time I use that stuff what it'll clean.
