I'm trying to get some stubborn dirt and blood from my kayak and seems like nothing is working. I'm good about rinsing off my yak after every outing but never really took the time to scrub her down until today. I bought the kayak new in April and figured it's time for a good scrubbing and a 303 wipe down. Here is a pic of what I'm working with, I've pressure washed the boat completely down and tried scrubbing with a green pad and mild soap.

I've read Ajax may work better or even WD40 but before attempting anything I figured I'd reach out to you fine folks with experience.

Thanks in advance!

-Teddy

If it rains mine gets washed. Right now there is a 1' x 2' 1/4" deep puddle of blood in the tank well from yesterday.  If we get rain it will get washed.

Try Oxyclean made into a paste with water.  Let it sit for 10 minutes then rinse off.

Question: I have heard that spraying WD-40 on a fishing lure as a fish attractant works well. Is it legal to use? There seems to be much confusion as to what is actually in WD-40. I would also like to know if the sunscreen I put on before entering the water is hazardous to marine life. (Ray I.)

Answer: It is not legal to spray WD-40 on your fishing lures as an attractant. The same goes for any substance that may be harmful to fish (e.g. sunscreen).WD-40 contains petroleum and is specifically prohibited by law to be deposited or introduced into the waters of the state (Fish and Game Code, section 5650). When it comes to sunscreen, I would just try to use discretion as any foreign substance, even sunscreen, may carry chemicals that may be harmful to fish and other aquatic life if introduced in large enough quantities. General rule of thumb is when applying sunscreen, wait 20 minutes before swimming for it to completely soak into skin so that it is less likely to wash off in the water.

He's not talking about spraying it directly into the water.  He's talking about spot cleaning with it.  Do we need to bust out a chemistry class lesson?  Lo .

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that reply came out of left field - I went back & re-ead the original post just to make sure I hadn't missed something. Nope.

Teddy, give Yakhopper's or Oldfart's suggestions a try but, otherwise, I say don't obsess about it too much. When I first looked at your pic, it actually took me a minute to even see the dirt - it really just looks like the pattern in the plastic.  I'm trying to keep my Hobie super clean, too, but some stains are just part of the game.

UV protection is not overrated, though, IMHO. Sun will do real damage, stains are just cosmetic.

Hey fellas I appreciate all the feedback.. The picture I took is a from a bad angle I'll take some tomorrow and see what you guys think. I stopped and picked up some awesome and oxyclean to give it a try. I was told before using 303 to clean the surfaces very well because what's on there will be sealed in after the treatment.

Correct, 303 will seal in a stain.  When I sold boats in FL, we used a generic toilet bowl cleaner from dollar store to remove tanic water stains. Very acidic cleaner but it worked THE BEST.

Pollutants on the yak are likely to end up as pollutants in the water. To each his own.

Are you directing this towards the WD40 statement or general cleaning supplies?

Simple Green mixed with 50% water and plastic brush works best for me.  It convinced Chadrock to buying my old Revo 13.  :smt003
