Skeet & his brother are pretty cool dudes.  Worked with them at ISE Sacramento last year in January.  Hoping to work that show again in 2016 but not sure yet for which vendor(s).

He has some pretty cool rods.  Might have to check out that hookup for one of his rods one of these days.

I don't think the Trevala rods would be ideal for throwing big topwater all day. Even the extra-fast action rods aren't rigid enough for that kind of usage...they'd work; I use mine for many different applications. But that's not what I would get specifically for wood bombers and topwater stuff. 7-8ft is manageable from the yak. In this case, I'd go with 7'4 to 7'10 in the 12-20lb range...with a somewhat-shorter butt, because it can get annoying when you're sitting on your kayak with a pfd on, casting all day long.

I like the action of the trevala better than the Okuma Baidarka.  But I like the shorter butt length of the Baidarka, gets hung up on PFD much less.  Hybridize the two into a light Baidarkavala with short butt, muscly feel and fast tip = perfect

You know your rods[emoji106] no pun intended
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

Dude, how big a top water lure you planning to cast? You might have issues with this one...

So, I have a line on Skeet Reese rods. Not the ones you can buy. These are his tournament rods (personal) they run $55.00 each and are awesome. No warrentee and he has used them. (Some boat rash) I can tell you where they are or get one for you. they are specifically designed for dif lures etc.... Let me know and I can check what he dropped off for sale. Ron
Normal SR rods sell for 78-150. ea but, they are NOT the same...
Let me know when there's something for swimbait/bigger top water plugs. Thanks

I use a shimano Clarus and an Abu veritas for my dwb. Action is great on them and the price is low
i have a clarus and tried the veritas too. Not enough back bone for my 3-4 oz top water lures

I agree with G-Whiz. Bought a Shimano Trevala TVC-70ML last year and it's the best kayak fishing pole I have. Light and super strong and with a light bait casting reel, it is one light fishing rig. The 7' length is really perfect for a kayak, long enough that you can move the line easily around the front of your kayak. For $119.00 plus tax, a real winner!!!
At Albion 2015, I hauled some big Vermilions from 120' deep with this rig!!!

Here's the pic!
the Trevela is an excellent rod for the price. Not sure how it would do with bigger too water lures for stripers. Will have to borrow my friend's trevela
And try to know.

SK Reese frog rod 7'2" 1- 4oz lure   50-80 lb line med fast action, Bait cast reel
SK reese heavy cover  7'6"  3/8 - 1 1/2 oz lure 12-30 lb test action fast, Bait cast reel
Crankbait rod (one of my personal fav's) 7' 1/4-3/4  10-20 lb line med fast, bait cast reel
Football jig/big worm 7'2" 1/4- 1oz 10-25 line med fast, spinning reel
Several others but these will suffice...

I've used these for striper up to 15lbs and lings/rockfish light as a feather and awesome feel in the hand....

my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!
