I have elite 5 dsi gold, can I upgrade to the chirp head unit and keep the transducer that came with my DSI?
Yes, the Lowrance chirp & hdi use the same transducer. So you can just swap head units. Lowrance has an upgrade program, but I think they'd want you to send back the whole hdi setup (head unit, base, transducer, etc). Sometimes you can find a deal on the head unit alone.

The unit i have is the DSI not the HDI, will it still work?

DSI has a different type of plug. Similar to the older Elite 4/5 83/200.
Are you just trying to keep the trans in place and replace the head to a chirp. Is the DSI head unit toast?

Mike

Yeah, id like to get the 7" and figured I'd upgrade to the chirp while at it. Just wondering if I can keep my 5" DSI ducer or if I need to buy the 7 chirp with the ducer.

D'oh!! I read that as hdi; not dsi. My bad. DSI transducer will not work with an HDI or Chirp unit (and vice versa). The hdi & chirp are interchangeable.

Hmm, I couldn't find much info about it online either. Maybe they're phasing that program out. Or I totally imagined it. But I'm pretty sure they still offer the exchange/upgrade program, which allows you to upgrade to the newest unit for a discounted price (in exchange for your old unit). I would call their customer service # to find out more.   http://www.lowrance.com/en-US/Support/service-support/

Won't work. You'll like the 7 though, especially with the larger screen/maps.
A lot of bass and crappie guys still use/ buy those older dsi units. They work great especially if you know how to adjust/read it.

Cool, thanks Mike.  I'll just get the 7" with the transducer.  Thanks again.

I'm installing new unit and wondering what 2nd cable is for ( 1st being power/ground) and if needed cause I seen somewhere dude cut it completely off. Will 3 cables fit through plug?

Exactly what model are you talking about?

I assume an HDI and Chirp. That 5 wire cable is not needed and you can cut it and seal it off. It's a data cable to connect NMEA 0183 coms.
