Get the headlamp instead.  I've been using Cree 1600 over the last 3 years.  Cheap at 30 bucks on Amazon.  Rechargeable battery.  Been using it delivering mail in the dark.  It can spot a hidden mailbox and a lurking pit bull yards away :smt044

For headlamp, get a Fenix headband for 20 bucks online and put whatever small flashlight you like on it (comes with 2 flashlight mounts plus 2 battery storage compartments). I use it with just one flashlight mount with small Fenix or Olight. Ratcheting angle adjustment works well.

After looking at the Mini CREE LED lights Jerry posted, scratch that... I'm not going to buy a special battery and charger for a flashlight.

From the listing on Amazon;
"This mini flashlight can use AA size Alkaline, NiMH and lithium 14500 batteries"

You aren't buying a special battery, you are buying a rechargable AA battery is all.  It runs fine on a AA Alkaline.
OK, then maybe I will try it.  But I'll have a hard time believing that an Alkaline 2000mah 1.5v will last anywhere near that of lithium 14500 3.6v, which is what it reccomends.

Mag-lites.  2D 3D LED.  I carry a mini 2AA LED on my belt 24/7 for last 5 years.  Not the same light for last 5 years, I wear them out sadly, with constant daily continuous use.  My current carry is approaching a years use so far! Still I like the light output from them, its why I continue to use them.

yeah I need to look into one of these. I like having a red light option for reading at night and just looking for crap that gets misplaced in the tent/camper

yeah, a red filter option is key to a good headlamp.

I don't think the listing or I said it would last as long using the Alkaline over the lithium.  Meaning the time the LED stays lit with a single battery.  However, I do think the LED element is going to last longer, meaning, not fail or burn out, with a 1.5 volt battery over a 3.6volt battery.
Actually, they will last about the same length of time, just that the Lithium battery will output a brighter light for the time over the Alkaline.  Same run time, different brilliance.

Best bet when deciding on any flashlight is to read the reviews.  Those are the folks who have paid and will be brutally honest in their opinion.  Especially the one and two star reviews.  Keep in mind, some people are idiots and downgrade products due to their stupidity.  Ha!

I recently purchased a dash cam for my car.  The one/two star reviews had complaints that the cam shut off after a minute.  They were misunderstanding the cam.  It turns off the display after a minute, the cam keeps recording.  Press any button and the display turns back on for another minute.  Most bad reviews tells us more about the reviewer than it does about the product being reviewed.  The reviews do provide some good insite though, and steers you to a product you can anticipate the actual performance of.

This works great, is very adjustable and lasts for hours.  Very inexpensive.  I bought my first one 2 years ago and have since bought two more as I like it enough to keep one in each car as well.

Very bright, it's got to be seen to be believed.

On Jerrys recommendation I bought two of these cree mini flash lights as the price was just too good to pass them up. Placed my order on March 11th and just got them today. Can't say how they work at night yet but I sure can see the light just fine in bright daylight. Kinda like the adjustable beam. A bit small in my hand but I'll get used to it.

Thanks Jerry!! For the price I'm not sure you can get a better compact flash light.

I have one mounted on my shotgun.  Did you get the one mode or the three mode?  Mine are 3 mode.  In the flashing mode, it's quite intimidating to get lit up.  Ruins the night vision of who ever is covered by the light and hard to pin point the source as it flashes from full on to full off.  Regular bulbs take a bit of time to go full on and off, but an LED is instant.

I've got 5 or 6 now.  I keep 'em in the glove box, motorcycles, night stand next to the bed.

The ones from Costco are not to bad at all they work well the bigger one from Duracell with adjustable light from spot to flood and 3 levels of light for $20.00 is worth the price but so are the small ones 3 in a pack (adjustable brightness Hi, low and strobe ). But the Streamlight ProTac 2L is in my pocket 24/7. Got it from Palmetto State Armory for 32.00 when they go on sale.
All LED lights.

Hate Maglites. Everyone I've ever had would only turn on if I partially unscrew the cap holding the batteries in.
