Love closed cell urethane foam n cf  can make lots of cool stuff be solid. PVC pipe in the scupper epoxy. Wouldn't take it too the ocean but good enough for  lakes n ponds...

I will see him soon ..I sent him this open forum thread link and he may/has been reading your well intentioned and thought out responses

Two thoughts I had...he is going up to college in Humbolt inAugust...he could do a good /tuff short term fix and have a beater kayak with him up there on weekends right from the star ---GOOD part--Young guy on a budget?
BAD part?? Young guy with a bright future and long life in front of him---why screw around with junk shit--cut it in half with a skill saw and take it to the dumps recycle bin and go on with life...save a few goodies on the side of parents house down here for throwing away later lol

get a kayak up there when life sends one down the law of attraction tube...and be safe and junk free to move smoothly into college

Fill those scuppers with expanding foam and cap with silicone. You could always insert pvc into it and seal around that.

he is a good kid and I dont think he is trying to mislead anyone...I saw him today and he said he was trying to dump it on c-list cheap to anyone who wanted to try and fix or salvage it

https://monterey.craigslist.org/boa/4929582986.html

he was at work and they were slammed at the fish market ,so I did not discuss this or ideas about his decision to list it..i will see him soon and may tell him he should post clear damage pics

If this stuff doesn't fix it, nothing is going to fix it.  Kayak is chainsawed in half, glued back together, then holds up to being tossed off a freeway over pass.... twice!  Besides other 'challenges' to break the repair.

1 quart, 32 ounces on sale a Amazon for about $50

Pretty unbelievable. I wish they would have shown more of the repair process.

Now its looking like he actually heated the original plastic to melt together and the G-flex to fill the voids. To assume he just used the product alone to glue it back together is unsound.

Yeah, that's a strange video considering the following quote from West Systems web site:

"Plastic-Adhesion varies. If a plastic is impervious to solvents such as acetone, epoxy generally will not bond to it. Soft, flexible plastics such as polyethylene, polypropylene, nylon, Plexiglas and polycarbonate fall into this category."

for sure  the ad does skip a bit of the meat and potatoes of that "rejoining" or 'repaired 'kayak

I will talk to him about repairs and we will do the job together -if at all--I got a text while fishing perch with the guysd today-that I have not had time to answer and dont really have quick answer

but he sent me

"I ordered that stuff in the link you emialed me-do any of the guys use the stuff and how did they do it?" type tex
I'll get with him this week before he messses with it --- i like the ideas suggested by folks of of putting plastic tubes p.v.c etc in the scupper passages and welding them and gooping the gaps...I also like the idea of never using the kayak again   :smt003 and throwing the stuff he ordered in his toll box for another project.....
