I probably won't be there on the 15th, I'm planning to be at the hookup in Monterey. I mostly just need someone to confirm that the channels are working the way they should so that I could speak into it on an emergency. I'll probably just bring it with me to Monterey and have someone there take a look at it. Thanks for the offer!

This will be my first VHF..  Ill see you in Monterey. Ill yell out when I catch the first sand dab  :smt044

I got mine today.  It's a solid radio.  They sent a catalog with it and the catalog had it priced at $199.  So I'd say we got a great deal.

Hey Guys,
I am glad that so many NCKA Bruddahs were able to cash in on the HX 851 deal!!
I thought it was too good not to post.
That's a hell of a lot of safety for $119.00

Aloha,

Da Bruddah

Thanks for the thread.  I got mines also.  Tested but i guess i need to register the mmsi.  More than likely i will not use all the features.  Just good to know the emergency beacon is there.

Here is a question.   Do you clip this on yourself?   Its somewhat bulky.  Im bot sure i have room on my pfd.

Standard Horizon is the Marine radio version of Yaesu; and since I was also into 2meter (Ham & CB), I opt'd to get a Yaesu FT-270R (which is on sale at HRO for $145 http://www.hamradio.com/detail.cfm?pid=H0-010076).

This radio is submersible IPX7; but doesn't float. Is a full 5watt; but has 4 levels of power levels. And with a "Little modification" ($ depend on who you go to) it can be modified to receive "all" marine channels and CB Channels.

Here's the link for more details on this particular radio: http://www.yaesu.com/indexVS.cfm?cmd=DisplayProducts&ProdCatID=111&encProdID=87CE6C1FF54D5BBCA7F39179AB3B1511&DivisionID=65&isArchived=0

I'm probably gonna uprade and get Yaesu VX-6R; so I can have VHF, GMRS, FRS & CB frequencies/channels.....

Mine is supposed to be here Thursday, funny thing though I was sent a backorder notice on the speaker-mic, not the radio.  I ordered immediately upon reading the post.  Thanks for the head's up.

I've had the HX 751 for a couple of years and it's the same size. I clip it on my pfd near my left shoulder and also leash it to the pfd. I don't find it gets in the way at all.
