With the line rating on the tiger light jigging rod I would say it's going to be stiff. I have the 7' tiger light heavy action rod and that thing is far to rigid for anything we do around here. Stiff rods = less bites in most cases especially while drifting/mooching. A buddy with a light action tiger proves this to me pretty much anytime we hali fish. :smt044

As far as the trevala I haven't fished one but I almost bought one a few years ago. I priced out a Calstar grafighter based on what it would cost to build and built my first rod. Though blank prices were a bit cheaper I built a 6'er with fuji guides/reel seat and hypalon grips for $96 not including freight. On another build I used the grafighter jigging blank in 7' ml action with fuji concept alconite guides (similar to what is found on a loomis factory rod) and that one went somewhere in the 140's. A some what comparable yet cheaper rod would be a rainshadow RX-6 saltwater rod which I have in a 7' xl. That build was just under 70 all said and done with Fuji guides/seat and hypalon grips. Try rod building out and you won't look back. Well you might and see all of your old heavy action ugly sticks in the corner. Lol.

Ugly sticks are cheap, strong, and reliable. I've never known one to break. What you give up is light weight and sensitivity.

The Trevalas feel better in your hand, are more sensitive, much lighter, twice the cost.

I like them both, but I think they are in different categories.

I think the choice should be driven by your approach toward gear. If you enjoy nice stuff and can afford it, get the Trevala. If money is tight and you're hard on gear, get the Ugly Stick.
Always willing to join others in the Monterey/Santa Cruz/Half Moon Bay area for a bit of fishing...feel free to contact me.

The regular old Tiger Lite rods are too soft for jigging irons. But this new Tiger Lite Jigging Rod looks pretty sweet--especially forthe price. There are many knock-off Trevalas on the market nowadays using similar construction. I was satisfied with the Dblue tc4 graphite rod I bought for like $60. It felt just as good as my Trevalas, but with better guides, seat, and cork butt grip.

my tiger lite jigging just arrived,i bought the heavy casting.its almost identical to my trevala.in action not look.i didnt realize the handle was that big.i thought it was like the tiger lite.if they wouldve came out with this sooner i wouldve got this over my trevala.and at only a third of the price.it was 66.99 at bass pro shops 10.75 for shipping another 6 dollars for oversize product then the tax.after all that was said and done it came to 91.00 and some odd cents.i only ordered it cause i had a 25.oo gift card.otherwise forget it, how could the fees come up to half the price of the rod.if you plan to go pick it up call the store first.not all the stores carry all the stuff they have online
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

The Trevala rods in my opinion are one of the best made and performing rods on the market for the money. If you think your going to find a quaility rod for under a $100 these days, your going to be disapointed. The only problem I've ever experienced with one, was holding onto it with greasy hands while a salmon yanks on it.... :smt005 When you buy a quality product, it only hurts when you buy it. The rest is pleasure.......... :smt004

Ttaval vs Tiger Lite ?
That would be like
Ferrari vs Tarus

It is true that they will both get the job done, but how will you enjoy the ride. The only reason to chose the lesser is cost. Once you use the upper, it will be hard to settle for the lesser. Next time you see me on the salt, feel free to borrow mine and feel for your self what the difference is.........
No .... I'm not asking you to grab my rod ...... keep it clean

See ya soon,
