Very rare, but I've seen pinks as far south as Big Sur. Legal to keep btw.

Are pinks good eating?  I was told they aren't, but never have tried it myself.  Sockeye on the other hand is awesome...

Never eaten a pink salmon. But I have heard they aren't good...better for bait/fertilizer, from what I hear. Their roe is popular though. In the last year, there's been a few showing up in central coast rivers--strange phenomenon.
But sockeye = kokanee so they probably taste better.

Now does anyone know of the trick of the tail between coho and chinook? On the top lobe of the tailfin.

"Siver Dime" - is that the trick you're referring to?  A Silver Salmon/Coho has ridges on its tail like the edge of a dime.
