The BBQ Lighting Ceremony will commence @ approximately 1300PST.

Yup gonna leave the fryer at home and bring the weber.... I smell T-bones on the grill! :cook

I'll bring some foil and spices and lemons...anybody picks up any medium sized rockies, we can season them and wrap them in the foil with some lemon slices in the belly cavity!!!

YUMMY!!!!!

Sincerely,

Jim

also at MBK there are a lot of sanddabs working the sand there. they are cool to watch as well. in the eelgrass beds below the barge there are big schools of perch and more often than not electric rays as well. i have seen one that looks like a flying saucer there, starry flounders and bat rays as well.

is you see the divot follow the direction that divot is pointing, halibut like to swim and settle back in a relatively straight line. i once shot and missed, went in the direction it swam (further out away from MBK) and found it lying by the eel grass beds. They like the beds because its home to a lot of juvenile RF. they lie in the outer edges of the beds and also along the sides of the boat mooring blocks down below.

when i spear halibut i aim for the middle because the one time i did not i missed out. the middle is the meatiest part and the brain is small and i had no idea where it was. also the middle you run a good chance of spining it. this isnt perfect though as i shot a 34" there once and even though i was in the middle it took off (i missed the spine by a hair) and i let it run with my gun and float line until it tired. i had no float with me this day so i used a zip loc bag at the end of the line to keep it off the sand.

going over sand is good for halibut for those who are really patient but i always preferred the slope and the blocks , eel grass beds etc... you can work in a zigzag pattern out and in to the slope and in a Z formation up and down the area. i stayed usually from the slope and out because i was impatient. dont go too close to the wall or else you might get snagged by a hook where people fish. Some of those guys toss their line far out as well.

if you see a pocket in the eel grass beds look into them and see, never know what hides in those.

that place gets all types of fish, its  mix of reef type area from the eelgrass and blocks and then the sand.

if you are going shallow add a couple of pounds of lead to your belt and it will make life a lot easier. a weight with a clip is handy. if the water is clear take it easy and work it from the surface because chances are you'll see them if they are there in the shallows this way.

another reason i liked that area was because the water always felt a bit warmer, this could be why the halibut like it maybe. i also liked that myself :)

Lol!! I hate to take sides, but I think Mooch's right. :P

I hope that you all had fun out there today!! I was planning to show up just to say hello to my brothers, but work was too busy to leave. Hope many were able to spear and hook some halis.
