I gave the guys at MyOutdoorBuddy a heads up about all of this.  They want to make it right and assured me that they'll do better to mention NCKA in future pieces relating to the club's activities.

For my tournament, I asked them to give some general info, but I was very specific that I'm not looking for more numbers to register and the only way to get in the tournament is to come to the thread on NCKA - this leaves no room for not mentioning NCKA, and it puts a spotlight on how these events are created, populated, and carried out.
Chasing salmon for the summer, and maybe a halibut too.

Good idea, Eric. I didn't mention it (because it doesn't matter) , but the one thing that kinda bugged me about the Crabfest article is that it kinda made it sound like anybody could just show up and be a part of it. Your way of going about it seems spot on.

I do appreciate what the folks at myoutdoorbuddy are doing...I think they advertise the Great Squirrel Round-ups.

If I wasn't in the business and had time to read forums, posts like this would keep me away.  I could only bear to read the first 2 pages.  It appears the reader was offended, not the organizers or anyone he was standing up for.  This was great promotion for myoutdoorbuddy and pretty good press for Crabfest.

IMO-
1. nobody should have been offended here and
2.the writer covered the event promo with the best of intentions.
3.Given the scope of the publication and event, research and fact checking are not editorial factors here and
4. a negative reaction was not warranted, has no upside and just wastes a lot of time.
That's just my opinion from reading 2 pages but it comes with a lot of experience with the social venue.

I wrote the first kayak fishing articles in 1995.  I've been published and covered dozens of times since in major magazines around the world and can tell you for sure that the articles that did not misquote, provide incorrect information and/or serious omissions (edits) are extremely rare.  On forums, thousands of readers generate a lot of armchair editors.
See you at Crabfest!!!

You should have kept reading, Spike. There was a happy ending, and even a group hug scheduled for this Sunday morning.
