Since there's much interest with this fishing technique, I will start a new topic in the right location. It began here...

Got them from the PI. Stormscrambler posted from this thread a website where you can get them. If you are a craftsman you can make one yourself. I would recommend wooden spool (maybe teak)... does not rust, better grip, it floats.

If there is a good size of buyers I plan on importing a few and make a few bucks from them.

You can't go wrong with an 8-incher, James. That's the size I have. I use 80lb-test running line top-off with 30lb-test leader (for Bay gamefish). I used 20lb-test leader over at Paradise last May8 and lost a good size butt, at least 30-incher.

These look pretty cool... They sell the plastic versions all over the internet pretty cheap,  like 4-5 bucks.  Google or ebay under "Cuban Yo-Yo"   and you'll see what I mean.   I'm thinking about getting one and using it for a sabiki rig or maybe just for a crab snare when I feel so inclined.   I'm thinking the 7" wooden one might be too nice looking to pass up!

Would love a demo!

I'll get one and rig a holder for it so I can use it on my trident.

BTW - it's not ghetto... it's Manly Fishing.  I can see why you're so into it.  I'll give it a try, but will be more into it once I get 10 or so but' under my belt.

Lee,

Ever see the Vietnamese versionof a handline! Talk about "ghetto!" Yours look so hi-tech compared to what I saw them use in the early 80's!

Every thread I've read here is my reaction :smt044!

I think plastic versions will work fine for small game and bait fish. But after fighting that butt, boy I tell you, the wooden version dragged on my hand like a charm.

it's Manly Fishing.  I can see why you're so into it.

They say it separates the boys from the men... for me, it's just a different excitement. It may take me some time (for big game) to polish this style. I can always use heavy leaders like what commercial fishermen use but that will take away the thrill and sport in it.
