thats mostly what we use when I was back in Hong Kong,  on shore though.  they are cheap and direct , you get much more feel of the fish. they make rectangular ones too that somehow slips out line if a fish pulls hard.... sorta forgot how to use them, but basically one end is tapered or whatever so the line can go out if needed, or if you are on land, i would just leave lines on the ground unwinded .  fun way to fish.... but, be careful, with bigger fish, you might get line burn , fought a 20lb redfish with handline, all i can say is i wish i had gloves on...

Lino,

You know what I think already...  greatest thing since sliced bread!  Only it pre-dates sliced bread.

James, thanks for the link.  I've been going crazy looking for one since I saw Linos...  But I still like Lino's better!

If there is a good size of buyers I plan on importing a few and make a few bucks from them.

If you do count me in for an 8 incher, please.

Yeah, i'd be down for the group purchase.  The plastic ones are cheap, good looking for bait stuff.  But for catching a real fish, I can see why a nice hard wood would be the way to go.  :smt002

One of the few occasions where that statement doesn't sound weird coming from a guy...  :smt005

I'm interested in how these things work...are there demos somewhere online?

Yep! ChuckE and I have been talking about some kinda derby since last year, before I got my rig. With all the hi-tech fishing gear around, who would go back to basics... Surprisingly, there's quite a bunch. We'll see how many guys will go serious with the traditional way...

I just got the 5" one. Its pretty small so I'd say the bigger the better for actual fishing. I plan on using it for bait so I wanted one that was small enough to stow in a plano/tackle box
