Hi!

I've finally committed, and I'm purchasing my first fishing Kayak. Looking forward to meeting folk and enjoying the water!

New'ish to the Bay. I came from New York a few years ago; but originally from New Zealand.

Welcome.

What sort of kayak are you looking at getting? I’m just trying to live vicariously through people getting new kayaks since I haven’t gotten one in a few years.

I think I'm going to try and go all in and get a pedal drive Kayak. I've fished on a non-pedal before, and managing a paddle + rods is a real nuisance. Plus the Bay / Delta waterways are sizable, and fishing Kayak being built for stability are not the most efficient boats.

Everyone says spend your limit first. Rather than re-spending later on an upgrade. Aiming for a second hand Hobie or Old Town, but those will still cost me $2200+ (ouch). Took a trip to California Canoe and Kayak the other day to look at their second hand options. Nice shop.

You can't go wrong with a Hobie. Hope to see you on the water...

I think Julian is selling his Hobie Passport that has put him on a lot of fish for 1/2 that price.
Also I think new ones are on sale too. A Compass is a bit better, and the Outback seems to be the what most prefer.

If a seagull poops on you, statistically it was no accident.

Welcome to the community and area.

When my son and I first started kayak fishing almost 10 years ago, we bought a demo Hobie tandem from CCK at Oakland.  It worked well for us for many years and JT there at the shop is super easy to work with.  It had some issues that they addressed after the purchase and JT took care of them.  We have since switched to two Hobie singles.  Not that I have owned other brand of kayaks but Hobies are very fishing friendly.  Hope to see you out on the water soon.
