This came up in my feed today, found it interesting.

Does California have any fish/aquatic species with a bounty?

From what I can tell, the only invasive fish identified to actually be in any California waters is the grass carp.  And, there doesn’t appear to be enough to justify anything other than an order to kill them when you catch them and report it to the CDFW.

I guess it’s good that there isn’t currently a fish bounty program here.  It means that they’ve done a really good job keeping control of any invasive fish species that have been illegally introduced into our fresh waters.

Agree with your assessment that California does a good job of keeping unwanted invasive species at bay.  Too bad, I could use a fun side hustle, haha.

I agree.   I want to start free diving.  I figure that since I can’t get abalone, I can at least do what I can to do my share putting a dent in the uni population up here.

Wasn’t there one on Northern Pike in Lake Davis? I know you could get fined for releasing one you caught. When I was growing up in Sacramento, there was. Twenty-five cent bounty on crows and a ten or fifteen cent bounty on magpies.

If I remember correctly, there used to be a bounty on the chinese mitten crabs.  I think that helped eradicate them, though.
