Figured I’d throw the idea up for discussion, air tag ur kayak for security tracking and love ones can track you or the wifey… maybe she’s contemplating your chasing other fishes in the sea ….  But you’re really just fishing…. 🤣 LMFAO

I added one to my kayak. I used sticky Velcro to attach it inside against the top. Just seemed like cheap insurance to me.

Great idea..... they need a similar product in Android for us non apple folks.

I have air tags on few items. Our trailer, keys, camera bag. Also on the dogs collar when we travel. Haven't put one on the kayak yet, but probably will. Thanks for the idea.

As I understand it bluetooth tags are only detected in teh vicinity of a phone running bluetooth.. and in this case a Galaxy Phone.
So while it will chirp when close to yourself, or another kayaker with a phone.. I don't understand how this will provide any signal once you're out in Tomales Bay or off HMB?  Maybe I don't fully understand how they work?

I am mainly interested in security tracking.  I am not sure it will work in the open ocean when you don't get any cell signals and there are no other working cell phones nearby.  I could be wrong.
It works outside of Bluetooth range (120m) by utilizing other Apple or Samsung devices.  I am planning to use it on my keyring, hidden location in my car, hidden location in my kayaks, and my elderly father (94 yrs old).

I think people are conveying use for theft and not safety in location for emergencies on the ocean, Bioman.

It will not work for theft prevention. If the perpetrator has an iPhone, they be notified that an AirTag is in their vicinity. This was a product decision due to concerns about stalking.

For safety purposes get a Garmin inreach or other satellite device with a tracking feature.

If the potential thief has an iPhone it should notify them of the AirTag as they considering the theft, hence  a deterrent. And if they do not have an iPhone it will send a location if another is nearby. So I think it has some theft prevention value.

Hum, can you take this airtag with you on your next fishing trip 

For approximately $20, it might be the best theft deterrent/recovery devise currently available.
I ordered Samsung Galaxy SmartTag (4 Pack) for $80 and will test them next week or the week after.
I am very impressed with the battery life.  I think it is Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) device that consumes very low power.
I will let you know my review.
