I just wanted to thank everyone that had help me give suggestions and options on how to do my AI conversion!! After 4 months of work on it, I couldn’t be any happier and has been working well so far with a 2.5 Suzuki motor on it. Only problem I got is I tend to have quite bit of water in the hatch after each run, but everyone tells me it’s normal!! Gonna do a water leak test on the top of my kayak to see if there is any significant drips coming from my install!! I think it’s coming from adding a rear hatch to my outback or the front hatch!!

Super cool! What’s your top speed?

As for water intrusion, I’d work on getting a better seal on the hatches. I don’t know much about Outbacks, but this is a very common issue on AIs. For the AI, there are several popular fixes, any of which will reduce the amount of water in the hull.
Are you pondering what I’m pondering?

Thanks, yeah I am trying to find a way where I can seal it but not permanently seal it so I can access back there for future checks on my install. My top speed is about 6-6.5 with my fat 220lb lol!! I can’t complain about it!!

Check out the single bungee mod for 2019+ outbacks, lots of water gets in through where the front bungee straps are connected so its nice to just snip those and seal that area.

Goop it, I would imagine that you only need to access that back hatch once in a blue moon.

Nice work! It is normal to have some water in the hull after adding a gas motor on the ob. Just need to bring a pump or install a pump at the back hatch.

This is great.  Any chance you could share the parts list for this mod?  Im thinking of doing this as well on my 2020 outback but I am not quite sure on which XBARs to purchase.  Also, did you install backing plates to the brackets or just washers and nuts?  Another question, was the rear hatch necessary for the rear XBAR install?  I do not have a rear hatch and I can see that being the trickiest part of the install.  Sorry for all the questions.  Thanks for sharing.   :smt006

Welcome to the non-true kayaker club lol enjoy your time on the water. Always carry a beige pump! If you going offshore I would install a electric one  :smt006
