On Tuesday afternoon, Marin kayaker Cyril Derreumaux paddled to shore on Hawaii's big island, capping a 92-day voyage and establishing him as the first kayaker ever to travel alone from California to the islands under his own power.
He used both peddle and paddle but no wind assist.

Wow!! What a voyager. I could hardly imagine what kind of mental that is! Thanks for sharing. I’m stoked he made it this time as I had my doubts obviously. That kind of trip would have killed a weaker man.

Truly inspirational...I remembered when he attempted this journey last year and had to cancel after 5 days. He got knock down and got up again.

I wonder if he ran a shark shield Ernest style, solar charged...do you think he brought some poke ingredients?...I hope he had a welcoming committee like no other...what a feat, no thank you but very inspirational, maybe I'll reach that farther waypoint for once...time to get in shape...

So gnarly, amazing accomplishment!

If you're looking for a good read, do yourself a favor and grab a cop of Ed Gillet's adventure, 'Pacific Alone'.

Very cool.

I saw his boat a couple times early morning in Santa Cruz. The pictures are from May 1.

Btw, there's another boat that's almost identical. I saw that one on the water once and chatted with the owner. He doesn't have any plans to paddle to Hawaii...

Are you pondering what I’m pondering?
