Can anyone tell me what a flashing green light means on the Shark Shield Freedom 7?
I have two, both less than two years old, one is refurbished.
Thoughts?
Thanks,
Andrew

The green light flashes when the tail is not submereged.  Submerge the tail and the LED will stay lit.

I have the same issue even when tail is submerged. Used maybe 4 times and already has issues!

It's not working. Mine did that and I sent it in for service. Hopefully, yours is still under warranty.

I started carrying the Shark Shield LED Indication Manual sheet to understand it better.

Flashing green in the newer ones in my experience means clean the connectors and attach the charger well.  I think it is red green when charging then red when charged.  On my older one, flashing green means it's not connected to charger properly then it goes full green when charged...hope it works out.  I'm going to have mine modded asap... :smt006

You need to be a bit more specific. Do you mean you have the whip submerged, but the green led keeps flashing? If so, your electrodes or the wires are probably corroded. This thread might provide some useful info to you. http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=98940.msg1108360

Yes, it was submerged, sorry.
I emailed them and heard back already so I might send it in.

Is it just me or are a lot of people having issues with their SSs lately?
I wonder if there have been changes in the manufacturing.

I think I broke mine dragging my kayak on the beach with the tail going through my scupper hole so that one is on me. It was out of warranty, but they replaced it with a new one at a steep discount.

It's more common than you think. From my triage, it was clear that the corrosion started from the whip up all the way to the connector that attaches to the enclosure. The fact that the SS needs to be submerged in salt water means you're at the mercy of the quality of the waterproofing done at the factory. Rigorous washing/cleaning the unit after every use will slow the corrosion process, but it is quite clear that the waterproofing will fail after some time.
I recently examined five SS from people who thought they had a battery issue. Turned out, their SS were corroded, as indicated by measuring the resistance of the electrodes.

Same here. Refurbished unit arriving Tuesday.

I need to be a lot nicer to this unit as I’m pretty sure I was to rough on the last one. I also think I damaged the whip dragging it up the beach while it was still trailing under the boat through the scupper hole.

I'm surprised that was enough to damage it. I got my first SS in 2011 and it just died last year. I dragged it over sand, concrete, and all sorts of other unintentional abuse. So, I'd say that that one was extremely durable.

I bought a new SS a few months ago. It seems to be working fine so far. But, the beeping drives me nuts--the old one would just beep a few times shortly before the battery died, but the new model beeps for an hour. Also, I don't understand why the light is green when it's charging and red when charged, as that's the opposite of everything else that I charge...

Yes, the solid red light when fully charged has always seemed very counterintuitive. I just charged my SSs and am going to try them bother on my next outing. I'm wondering if maybe the one I had out the other day simply wasn't charged and the flashing was some sort of warning light. It seems WAY too soon for problems to be occurring.

Another thing. I have a volt meter. Anyone know what voltage should appear when I touch the sensors to the electrodes on the SS? For examply my 12v battery shows around 12v for a properly functioning battery.
What would I see for a properly functioning Shark Shield?
