Went out from Nick's cove and met Rockroach as I was putting in. Contions were perfect. Flat and over cast. We made some bait pretty quick, caught some shinners, but no smelt, then headed over to Hog. We were drifting the typical Hog Is area, and ended up hooking several sharks, but no halis. I had three ????? cut my line that I never saw, and a ray or angel shark, a tan shark about 4'. Later we managed to catch a few smelt and gave them a go near the end of the day. Saw a couple other's in PB get halibut, so they are still around. Rockroach hooked a couple that came unbuttoned, and landed a couple sharks also. So with everything that we lost and didn't see. We might have had a couple on, never know... I gotta get better line, and Rockroach needs to get better hooks  :smt005 All in all, a great day on  the water. Great fishing with ya Marco.

Hey Jonesz, thanks for the report. I've been reading the other reports and was even there earlier in the week checking out a Zodiac for sale at Inverness. It was howling that day! I kept thinking what a gamble it would be to drive 2+ hours only to be met with wind and whitecaps. I don't like wind. Also, I found Nick's Cove, but where do you fish from there?
Juan
If you don't know where you're headed, any road could get you there.

Juan,
Today is another perfect day to go out there. When ever we have this high ceiling fog that goes far inland is a good day. Watch the weather reports for extended fog along the coast and you should be good to go. Nick's cove is being renovated right now, so the main ramp is closed, but you can launch right off the beach area next to the dock. Hog Is is straight across the bay. The typical halibut grounds are on the other side of the island. There are some eel grass beds along the other side of the island, and then some deeper channels where the main flow is. Make your bait on the edge of the grass, and then drift the channels for butts. Also Juan, if you ever just want to ask me if I think it's worth trying, I can usually give you an educated guess. Just pm me before.

Ya I had a blast fishing with you Jonesz, thanks!  I had to many lost opportunities yesterday though.  That last one that I lost really hurt :smt012.  Anyways I'm glad I was there, conditions were great and the action wasn't bad either.

Rockroach went out there without a gaf, net or lipper,...DOAH!!!! I asked him how are you planning on landing a halibut if you get one. He shrugs, "I don't know" I laugh and tell him if you hook one up, give me a shout and I'll net it for you. Well he hooked the a sand shark first and I wasn't near him so he beached and got out to land it. Then when he got the angel shark, I towed him to the shore so he could land it. Didn't want to tear up my brand new promar on that nasty thing. Besided, if I'm going to break in the new net, it's going to be a halibut, striper, or salmon!!  :smt005

It was pertty funny when I hook that first shark.  I was in the middle of the channel just chilling thinking about nothing when Bam, fish takes the bait.  I set the hook and the fight was on.  The adrenaline started pumping, I'm reeling in when all of a sudden I see whats on the end of my hook.  I said O' SH... :smt107 if only someone could have seen the expression on my face.  I've never hooked a shark before, much less in a kayak!  I thought a while, then decided to land him on the bank where I felt more comforable.
I have a lot to learn when it comes to landing a big fish on the kayak, plus a few more investments(net, gaff) I had fun though and can't wait to do it again.
Thanks for hooking up a newbie Jonesz!
