I saw a couple of people here mentioning Brad’s Super Bait Cut Plug a while back so I decided to try it. I actually bought a couple 4 years ago but didn’t try it until last year. After trying it, it quickly became my favorite lure for salmon trolling. I like the rolling action and the scent cavity. A few people asked me how I rig it so I made a video.

Been a fan of these for a couple years now. Use a GOOD bead chain swivel as these things can kink up your leader in a heartbeat. I tend to fill with oil packed tuna with some extra scent mixed in - its easy to keep on hand.

Cheers,
Brad

The more I read about salmon fishing techniques, the more I want to try all the trout tactics I've grown to love.   :smt044

I started using it this year and had some good results with it.
I used 30LB hard nylon monofilament/good bead chain and never had line twist issue.
The top hook was tied with an egg loop and the rubberband permanently lives there so no lost rubberband after a fish.

Been using those for years. Use a ball bearing swivel and flashers that rotate in the same direction as the plug. Some flashers rotate clockwise, some counterclockwise. Just make sure your lure and flasher rotate the same way and it will cut way down on tangles.

Love cut plugs. A few more notes.
- the bite on this plug is due to action more than color, so if it doesn’t have the right action, you’re not getting bit
- leader stiffness and length affect action. Longer and flexible is better.
- number of hooks and their size affect action. Smaller is better.
- placement of hooks and other hardware used affect action. Less is better
- the way you stuff bait inside the plug affects action (don’t overstuff)
- modular lure to leader connection affects action. Tying the leader to the lure is better
- trolling speed is important. Test your speed
- carry spare rubber bands
Luck favors the prepared

I also like this lure due to its rolling action and scent stuffing. A couple of questions below.
A few

How long a leader and line rating do you recommend? I am using 4 ft and my line is pretty stiff.

- number of hooks and their size affect action. Smaller is better.
I am using 2 4/0 gama octopus hook. Is that too big?

- placement of hooks and other hardware used affect action. Less is better
I rigged up two ways on my two lures. One has the trailer hook one inch from the first and 3 inches on the second lure

- the way you stuff bait inside the plug affects action (don’t overstuff)

- modular lure to leader connection affects action. Tying the leader to the lure is better
- trolling speed is important. Test your speed

Awesome info.  Going to give this a shot.  Do you downrig at all or just troll as deep as it naturally pulls itself down?  Thank you!

Those Brad's Plugs do not have a diving action. You need a downrigger or planer (Deep six, etc) to get it to your desired depth.
