Five of us showed up, the swell was much rougher than I've seen...  landings and launches were a challenge for some of us, as was catching fish!  Although there was no wind drift, which made up for the nasty surf.

I kept three of five, which I worked very hard for.  No hali's, only one ling from the group of five.

My keepers consisted of a large copper and a fatty cab that I found way up north, and a medium-sized black that I got at the last minute on the "just north" break outside the cove.

btw, that bulging cab belly was stuffed full of rock crabs.  You called it, Mooch.  Cooked him whole and turned him into tacos.

Nice little stringer, glad to hear you made it back safely.  BTW, I pretty sure your "large copper" is really a "large grass rockfish".

That swell was interesting, wasn't it? :smt003
Timing was everything, watching those blue humps curve around the north side and crumble into something that reminded me of the white horses racing down the river in "fellowship of the ring". Well, OK maybe not that bad, but the potential for pearling & yard sales was there in force. A few set waves did close out the cove. Fortunately everyone made it in & out without much trouble, but it was a bit sketchy.
Fishing was slow, no doubt about it. I managed a few gophers, another 22" vermilion that was a twin to the one I got up there last time, and a fat copper . All but the Verm were released. I had an approx 30+" ling follow the hooked copper up to boatside. He made a second pass, but then must have decided the copper was just a little too fat for him. Bummer! Water was really clear.
It was nice to meet a couple of new folks, and my brother in law had a great time. He outfished me with a ling of about 26"+. This fish was also very blue when filleted. Anyone else notice that BH Lings are more blue fleshed than others?
Next time I'll plan for the afternoon & bring a picnic as the weather was fantastic. I could have sat on the bluff & watched the waves the rest of the day. The drive south was so pretty, some of the cleanest afternoon conditions I have seen all season.

The Hollow waz biiiiig (the biggest I've paddled out off - to date)....fortunately, there were "windows" in between sets.....all you had to do was wait patiently.

Here's Sean and his bro-in-law doing just that...

here's a few big ones....

After Sean and his Bro-in-law launched, Kimo and I followed soon after this break.

We made it out at the right time and headed to the boiler just North of launch.

I caught 2 RF and gifted one to Kimo (who drove all the way from SAC - it was nice talking story with you bradah). The RF fishing was sloooow - by Bean Hollow standards - but the weather conditons were epic.

At the end of the day, I caught this rouge yellow tail with a wacky style senko barbless drop shot rig with a weed guard....coz that's just how I roll  :smt002

.....I forgot to thank Eric B. for the report and pic of his CABEZON from the bean.....Thanks for making me feel sad that I CAN'T FIND A CABBIE if I was of middle-eastern descent and dropped  a local BART station.
That swell looked like turn-a-round and go-home size....glad you guys found that window.
