Up here camping for a few days.  Late start yesterday as looked like major thunderstorms would be happening.  Set up the kayak, i11s and realize everything but the depth finder is in the bag.   Must have left in the garage.   So trolled a cop car needle fish for a little while.   Maybe one hit No stick.  Did not go as far as China Cove due to wind and late start.

Good luck out there. Donner has always been a tough lake for me. I've caught rainbow trout, kokanee, and mackinaw there but never in abundance. You might try Stampede or Boca while you're in the area. Stampede has been producing nice kokanee this year.

I may, depending on weather.  Have not had any rain yet, but heavy rains forecast.

I second Stampede. I’ve done very well on Kokanee this year. However, the Kokanee I caught at Donner last year were much tastier. The meat on the Stampede fish is a bit pale.

Stayed at Donner.  Did not catch any fish.   Pretty much stayed in the sloughs by the Creek outlet and around the boat rental.   Very windy, took a lot of peddling to make headway going west.   Nice wind blown return.  Fairly rough and lots of whitecaps.  Just could not get up,the gumption to go to Stampede.   I recommend Smokey’s BBQ in Truckee.  We had lunch there again this time and very good BBQ, with nice portions and not overpriced.   Best onion rings I have had in years.  When we left yesterday, lake looked like glass.
