Was looking to get the wife an OT 106 PDL. Then I saw the new Passports 10.5’ and think they may serve the purpose well. She isn’t fishing just wants to cruise around with me while I fish and take photos of the sights. Maybe an occasional trip on the bay or Out of Trinidad when it’s flat. What are y’all’s thoughts on the new offering?

I would probably buy it over an new Outback if its stable enough cause I like the GTvdrive over the stupid 180 or 360 drive.  I also like the simplicity of the rudder too.  Also the price is better than the Outback by a substantial amount

I agree that the GT drive is the preferred Hobie drive, especially if you are mostly fishing big water. The relative simplicity of the GT means there is less to go wrong...
I don't like stuff that sucks.

Also, on the Hobie website, the rotomolded version of the Passport is listed at the same weight as the thermoformed version. If that's correct, I can't see any reason to choose the thermoformed hull...

Also without an increase in price. This will be a very popular kayak.

Yes, I too think this this will be popular. I'm tempted to get one before Hobie realizes they need to raise the price to make up for lost Outback sales...

Need to sell my thermoformed Passport 12 stat before everyone figures out there’s a way better version out now for the same price! Actually looks really slick without the two different colors on top and bottom. Was a great first pedal hull for me and I bet the rotomolded version will be even better for those that decide to take the plunge.

What is the difference between rotomolded and thermoformed?

Rotomolded is likely to handle dings and scratches (and general abuse) better--it's more forgiving, in that sense. The advantage of thermoformed is less weight, but that does not seem to be the case for the passport, fr some reason...

Thanks. Do you guys think the Passport 12 R is ocean worthy for a novice? It is nearly half the price of an Outback...

I think the Passport 12 (non-rotomolded) is ocean worthy for a novice.  I don't see why the rotomolded version would change that.

There is definitely a big price difference between the Passport 12 vs outback vs Revo 13.
If you plan to do any salmon trolling, think of the Revo 13. Less deck space, a little tippy initially and you will get used to it after a few trips. Revo 13 is probably one of the best for trolling.

Thank you, Chet! Bagging a chinook from a kayak is the stuff my dreams are made of but it's the "little tippy" part that concerns me, as a novice. Once I've learned to operate the Camry, I'm sure I'll be eyeing the Porsche in a trade-in!
