I am new to NCKA and still learning all the new things. Could someone pls tell me where to launch my kayak at Davenport? Is it a marine reserve area?  --johlee2

From SF, take Hwy 1 and head South (about 40 miles from HMB) - make a right on Davenport Landing. It's a very small sign and easy to miss. If you dirve past the Cement Plant, you've just past it.

Park as soon as you see the steps that lead you to the beach. it's an easy surf launch and landing but can get windy just outside the cove. I personally wouldn't fish in that area this time of year....Sharky waters.

It's not a Marine reserve as far as I know.

Paddle safe,

Yeah, the sharks are never around this area in the middle of the summer,  you'll never find them around, oh, july 21st :smt003.
Kidding aside, the launch is deceptively easy. I say say deceptive because once you are out there you are very much exposed to open ocean.  Mooch is correct that sharks will begin to show up with the seal migration in the fall, and there have been numerous sightings there. One came up & munched a charter boats' drift anchor there.
The Davenport area is just south of a reserve so know where the boundaries are, but most of the area around the launch is still open for now. There are a few reefs in the area that have produced some nice fish in the past. If you are a beginner, try to buddy up before attempting this spot.

Someone on this board suggested parking at the SE end of the parking area because the surfers like to park up higher so they can watch the waves.
Not a place for beginners - it's very exposed to fog and swell(except the launch).
