Wanted to go for a little prefish to Santa Cruz harbor. never fished there and Both my Outback's FFinders

are on the Blink.............

FrankFishing Says " My RED Hobie Revolution has a Fishfinder... :smt047

 So I took " HazardPay "  :shark

while FrankSwimming played with his New Trident :smt007

Made several baits thruout the Day from Anchovies right outside the Harbor to smelt, mackeral

and sardines and I think herring....

Had a Good one on drifting Herring, but he took a early dive and jammed me in the rocks..... :smt010

Nice fish, unknown make, this happen one more time, but again was late and not sure it was actually a

Hook up.....

Got many scratched up baits towards the end of the day with the wind making a presence @ 12:00

and full on Small Craft by 1:00...

Looking forward to the tourney if it is happening....

 Good Luck to all..........

 Just don't Beat Me!!!! :smt018 ........ Danglin

Naw :smt002

I'm just "yukkin" , Feels like DisneyLand out there with the boardwalk and easy launching out of the

Harbor.  It was nice to try out the Revolution under different water today and it did well, but..

I perfer my Outback anyday.... I carry a WarChest when I go out and the Revolution just can't handle

the payload. The OutBack is wider with trays on both side and 2 more rod holders up front.

And even though I got used to where the rudder is I perfer the position on the Outback.

 Interesting for the Trident....

When we were making our way back in thru pretty good sized swells and wind, the Trident was keeping pace

with me, no problem. I think it's pace might be even faster...

 That's a nice Machine :smt007 ..........  Danglin

Are those baitfish herring or sardines? I am assuming herring, but I never sabikied either herring or sardines myself.

they aren't anchovies or smelt or mackerel, I know that much at least.

Frankenswimming, I thought it was just alien that would toss his spare squid on the BBQ along with a mac or two, follow it up with a bucket of anchovies, then eat a monkey-face eel for desert!  :smt044

I filleted a big smelt once. then threw it away,  :smt002. What do you want from a suburban white punk?  :smt006

regarding the baitfish in danglin's great pic (got any unchomped pics?), don't american shad have dots on the side? they are closely related to herring. But I guess the tip-off there was the keel-shaped belly. we just went through this with some tomales bay bait I think. they got identified as american shad.

what the heck do the local sardines look like anyways? and so far it seems they have been out further, not quite nearshore? At least that is what I am gathering from the coastside reports.

All of sardines, herring and shad have a ton of bones, right?

I really would like to know my baitfish a lot better.

Oh yeah, regarding sharks, there was one sighted by jonathan of this board at santa cruz.  And my business partner windsurfed over a small submarine off natural bridges a few years back.

Then there was the 16 year old girl killed in Aptos many years ago.

So it might seem like disneyland, but you might get an interesting surprise out there one day...

I concur, square jaw.  My nephew picked a few off the pier last week, they mix with the chovies.  Sardines go crazy wiggly like a mac when on the sabiki.  Nose hooked they last alot longer than a jaw hooked chovie.

This is the only other pic I have, and they do last a long time with the nose hook up,

Even after being slamed a few times..... Danglin
