This is just a reminder to those of you that fish the Port to take your wallet, phone, and other stuff with you - do not leave them in the car!

I hit the Port early today (before daylight.) One guy was there in a car and I didn't pay any attention to him. When I got back to my truck around 11:00AM the back rear window had been broken out with broken safety glass everywhere. You can tell they went through the car fast - I think they were just looking for drugs or money. They didn't even steal the wrenches and bottle jack on the floor in the back. But... the rotten bastards went into the center console and took a zippered pouch with all my registrations for my truck, RV, and 2 utility trailers. I think they were just in a hurry and thought something valuable could be in it.

Anyway the whole thing sucked.. please remember not to leave valuable stuff in the car - TAKE IT WITH YOU

PS Been going to the Port for years and never had an issue but I never went this early and I will not again: Oh and even better - I have a $1000.00 deductible on my comprehensive truck insurance - so the repairs are out of pocket.  I'm too old for this early morning shit - I'm staying in bed.

When you look outside the window, and all you see is fishing. True Story.

Sorry to hear that happened to you. I'm fairly new to the area and was planning a trip to launch from there. Maybe I should adjust my plans.  :smt009

Have only been there a few times and always when there were a good number of cars and fishing people around. That said, I do my usual which is nothing in the truck camper shell and cab and unload the glove compartment at home and leave it visibly open. That's about all you can do against fucking junkies and thieves. Been broken into at a put-in on the American River and it sucks. And in midtown - great when someone breaks your car window to steal like $3 in change.

If there was just one random in their car or a few sketchies early in the am I'm sure i would just turn around and go home. Of course, everything's getting more sketchy in Sacramento with the bum and junkie takeover and zero apparent policing of it.

No don’t ‘not go.’ It fishes better late anyway so go later in the day and fish until almost dark. At that time the place has people around and nothing is likely to happen.

That place always looks sketchy with the homeless car campers in the lot but luckily I've never had a problem.  I do leave my glove box and middle console open as a precaution and I'm positive it's saved me from broken windows because I've returned several times with the car intact but the neighboring ones not so much.  Sucks to see this is where California is heading nowadays.

In scetch town if it ain’t raining I’ll leave the window down and disable the engine, no valuables in it of corse.
An after thought take a bag of broken door glass and sprinkle it in the ground….. there likely going to think you already got the search and seizure , mini broom and dust pan collect it for next time :smt044

Junkies suck!

Sorry Gary, that's messed up!

I've never had any issues there myself, but have seen plenty of evidence of crimes.

I was just thinking of hitting the Port this afternoon, haven't fished there in a while.
Probably should go online and buy a fishing license.
