In case you're looking for some sailing rope, West Marine has all of its "Sta-Set Polyester Yacht Braid" for 30% off thru 6/20:

https://www.westmarine.com/buy/new-england-ropes--color-coded-sta-set-polyester-yacht-braid-sold-per-foot--P002_071_001_527?recordNum=10

The 1/4" size is perfect for the AI mainsheet, and I use some other sizes for various things. It's high quality rope and the price is great.

My rope is old, and has had some hooks dug out of it, maybe I should replace it while on sale.  Ty NWM!

How many feet did you order for your AI? I may want to replace mine as well with nicer lines for my hands not to feel it the next day.

Might as well ask here, since NWM always finds good alternatives for Hobie parts.  One of the pad eyes (?) that the main line runs down the left side of the hull to the rear pulley just broke on me when I was loading the other day.  I'm betting WM has a stainless version I could buy, but curious if you have another source. I also broke my aka shear pin / plastic bolt, but think I can find something similar at Ace hardware.  I think it's also time to swap out the rudder pin, hoping I can get one from the dealer in SC.

For the main sheet, 30' was perfect.

On my AIs (notice that's plural...), the padeyes for the main sheet are both black nylon, and I don't see any need to use stainless (or brass). Actually, I've had a hard time finding a local source of any type of padeyes. WM only seems to carry super-expensive odd-shaped ones in stainless. Last time I was in MBK (in Monterey) they said they don't carry stainless anymore. Some sporting goods stores that sells kayaks have nylon padeyes--I found some at a Sports Authority. I've got a few spares in nylon you can have if you have trouble finding them.

Found I had a cache of pad eyes and even a shear bolt buried away in storage.  I didn't think it would be big enough for the main line, but see now that there are raised points where it screws in, so looks like it will work.  Going to dedicate Saturday to working on the AI repairs and hope to launch Sunday with the full package.

Very nice. We need to get all of the AIs on the forum together in one place sometime, then send a picture to Hobie to show them what a mistake they made in canceling the AI.

Btw, it's prolly a good idea to carry a couple of spare shear bolts and a spare rudder pin. I've only ever broken 1 shear bolt on the water and never had a rudder pin fail, but either could definitely ruin your day...

For sure we should have an AI event sometime, that would be fun!  And yes I have always carried a spare bolt and spare rudder pin in my ditch bag, never know when you might need to do a otw repair. I had to use my spare bolt last weekend when I saw that it had broken since my last outing. I do feel like I could get away without the bolt but I'll never go without a spare rudder pin if I can avoid it.  I also have a spare rudder pin but going to swap it out and carry the old one as a spare until I can get a new one ordered.  The SC kayak shop doesn't carry any items, but can order them if you plan ahead.  Prices didn't seem as bad as other sites here for replacement parts: https://westcoastsailing.net/parts/hobie-adventure-island

In case you're looking for some sailing rope, ...

You are not going to make it as a Hobie swashbuckler calling it "rope". :smt003

Now, if you will excuse me, I need to go put some 'string' on my new fishing reel. :smt003

Was shrimping off Edmonds in the Puget Sound years ago. My brother almost threw me overboard for calling it rope.

Ha ha! Yes, but I didn't want to confuse the non-sailing people, who might have a use for some high-quality no-stretch rope.

Btw, a lot of people do "restring" their fishing reels...
