i just bought a tiny tube of dielectric gel at Kragen for $4 and then found this on Amazon...is this the same stuff?

Most of the dielectric grease or gell products are a 100% silicone solids compound.

I've posted it before, but it's time for a refresh: Corrosion-X, the same stuff you can use on your reels to keep them in good shape, is also a dielectric. No need to have two different containers hanging about.

Scott, does Corrosion-X stay in place as long as a gel product would? Assuming, of course, that the connectors never get wet...

I wouldn't know, to be honest. I rinse out the contact areas after each outing, and then apply Corrosion-X.  I like knowing there's just a thin film that is unlikely to hide any abrasive grit.

When it comes to grease, you could always harvest some from the waterproof grease caps used for irrigation wiring.
