The 11 hours is broken down as follows.  ~2.5 hours from Seattle to the ferry launch at Tsawwassen.  The border crosssing can take 0-2 hours depending on the time of day.  2 hour ferry ride plus wait time.  4.5 hours from the ferry terminal on the other side to Moutcha Bay.  Any stops along the way.  So it's really only 7 hours of actual driving.  But yes, it's well worth the drive!!!

Which is why we got so many people up there this year.  The guys that went last year told so many stories, we just had to go and experience it for ourselves.

Yup.  They are there every Labor Day weekend.  This year they were actually there 3 weeks before, which is early.  This derby has been held for the last 4 years and they have been there in good numbers every year.

You just pull up w/ your car w/ yaks on top straight into the ferry. They're massive, 2 decks, one for regular cars and one for semis and still room for people, gift shops, cafeterias, day care, arcades, computer access.... very relaxing ride.

Like Pole2 said, it sounds like a long trip driving but it's really broken up so not that bad. Especially if you fly in through Vancouver. You can shave off 2.5 hours that way.

Z

PS. I hope to have a few more rigged yaks by next year's tourney so hopefully can have some loaners that Da NCKA Boyz can use.

You could even fly into Victoria and save the ferry ride, but Moutcha is about 5-6 hours from Victoria.

Also, there were a lot of demo kayaks available at the derby.  So either Z or I can bring spares, or we could make arrangements to have some demos available for you.

Hmmm..., I just might consider making a complete vacation out of that. Head up for a couple or three weeks and tour around the area, then head over to the tourny. Sounds very interesting. I've been seriously considering taking a couple yaks up that way and check out some of the sounds. Hmmm, (scratches his chin....) Thanks for posting the pics along with your great report guys.

He's actually on a Big Game.  And he has outriggers on it as well.
