Hey all,

I am moving to the area after a time away from the left coast. I used to live in Oregon and did a lot of fishing up there but have been out of the area for job purposes. I bought my first fishing kayak in 2011 (ocean Kayak Drifter) but have not gotten it as fishy as I planned. Ill be moving to Humboldt county so I finally have the access and incentive to get a boat on the water and fish. Looking to switch to a pedal drive, but still trying to figure out which to choose (stuck between Hobie outback, Compass, or Old Town PDL 120).

Take care

Welcome to NCKA!  Best advice in deciding which kayak to buy is to get out and see them and if possible try them.  Lots of folks on here have often been willing to help a person out by letting them try out their kayak.  All of them have some advantage over the other in some way or another but they all can get you out to catch fish.

Thanks, I was able to give the pdl and outback a quick test on a pond, but it was not much help honestly. The 180 drive seemed a bit finicky and I felt like I was gonna break a cable but that is prob more user error.

Welcome!

Around here Facebook is an important fishing tool, you'll want to get on the local pages - and there are several.

Go ahead and search for LoletaEric on youtube and watch some videos, then book a trip with him and your learning curve will be shortened considerably.

Welcome Sprmario.  California Canoe & Kayak in Oakland Jack London Square offers kayaks for rental and they carry Hobie (for sale and rental).  It may give you some additional info.

I have seen him on here and on youtube. Once I am out there, I plan to do just that.
