I've been using the West Marine stuff too. The key is to get the solid core stuff, not the stranded. They have both.   That being said, I ditched the aft Bungie completely, never really served a useful function.

Just curious as to what aft bungee you are referring to...
Are you pondering what I’m pondering?

I've had good luck with West Marine bungee cord. It seems to hold up as well as anything from Hobie. It's expensive, though, so I just bought a big roll of this stuff, but have not yet had a chance to try it.

Give us an update if that amazon one is legit.
The closest one I have used was from OSH, the elasticity is 90% and UV is 80% comparing to Hobie.
The other places I bought goes bad within 1-2 years. Hobie is lasting a good 5 years.

Having used it most of a season, I'd say it's holding up well. I have not had any problem with it taking on a stretch or with any obvious UV degradation, but I do notice that the outside (the cloth-like stuff that covers the rubber) is probably not quite as durable as the Hobie original.

It's so much cheaper, and I don't think I'll have to replace it more than once every 3 seasons or so, so I'll stay with the Amazon-bought brand...
Are you pondering what I’m pondering?

Check. That one is definitely optional. I carry a cooler back there on my AI, so the bungees are useful. But they don't take much abuse, so almost anything will work for me. It's the AI ama bungees that are super-critical...
