I'm going to be in Davis on Saturday and I'll have some time to spare. Unfortunately, I can't take a kayak, so I was wondering if there are any bank fishing opportunities that might be worth a try.

I used to frequent Davis and would explore Winters towards the creek that runs out the dam of Berryessa.  Might be Putah.  Chasing dem miniature salmonoids...not sure the regs right now but I'm sure there's plenty...hope you get a tug... :smt006

West sac toe drain canal. Used to go there with friends to do some catfishing back in the day. Saw a bunch of shad guys lining the banks on Easter Sunday on the main sac near discovery whipping for shad, don't know if they're in though.

Many fishermen spend their lives chasing fish, only to realize that it was themselves that they were chasing.

The "Salty" in my handle refers to my attitude, not the waters I fish

Sac river shad fishing is something I hella want to do, but wont find time for it this year.  It looks like so much fun though and some reports were sounding promising.

That sound like fun. I gather that shiny little spinners and spoons such are the preferred gear--if so, about what size?

I've only fished for shad with small grubs on a carolina rig, or with crappie jigs in the American. Can't speak for any other methods, although I'm sure there's a lot of variety that will work.

Edit: Those bank guys on the West Sac side of the Sac river could very likely be whipping for stripers, although I'm not sure. I just assumed shad.

I hear Saturday is Picnic Day, so the campus will be chock full of bands, booths, food, exhibits, even the fly fishing club....

Can’t help with shore access spots, but the Stripers are in Sacramento River.  I’ve been having good luck the last few weeks soaking sardines launching out of Verona.

I like to use 1/12 oz kastmasters.

Great! I'll give it a try, provided my wife lets me multitask...

I check every day, but I don't think Shad are running yet. Davis has the Putah creek going through it. In and around Davis are good sized bass and lots of sunfish, big carp too if you are interested. Above Winters the Putah has great trout fishery, but it is catch and release only.

But like others said, Davis is going to be CRAZY this weekend. I live here and I usually try to avoid it.

Is shad fishing better in the evening?  I was there this afternoon at miller park.  Got one Shad in about 2 hours.  There was a line of people.   A few hookups here and there.   Is it crowded in the evening?
