Some shrink wrap, hooks and 80lb poly cord for easy and cheap rockfish stinger hook setups.

I save all my nice Kevlar ones for tuna fishing, plus they are like 5 bucks a pop just for the hook! Rockfish cant chew through this poly cord luckily so i started just making a bunch of these on the cheap. I add some mini b2's and some of my jigs just have big siwashs under them.

So stoked for rockfish season, I cant wait to test my new SPJ rod!

Can’t wait. For the first time since I bought kayaks I have to 4 day trips planned to Trinidad this summer. Hopefully the conditions are decent.

Those look great!  I didn't know there were mini B2's either  :smt007  What is that your poly cord is attached too called, never seen that before either.  How do you rig the hook with the poly cord and heat shrink?

Hit me up! Lol

Simple overhand knot snell w the line doubled up, melt down the ends. Then 1/4 heat shrink to keep everything snug.

You could probably tie a proper snell using a single line but the overhand knot works great then i just pass the loop through the eye. I bought some fancy "solid rings" from pitbull tackle that look like can lids lol but for rockfish you can just use a snap swivel, I may have gone overboard. The solid rings are used in tuna fishing so you can just switch out the iron at the split ring and keep the hooks attached to your line.

I keep meaning to do something like this. I like how it came out. Where did you get the cord?

50 lb Dacron braid is plentiful and inexpensive too. I bought some 30 lb to put on a classic 60’s era glass rod that was my dad’s and used some for stingers as well. Doubled, smelled to the hook and girth hitched to the split ring. I should use some heat shrink tubing too, just to keep it a little tidier as well.

I usually like 200lb assist line with the core that I can remove to make my assist hooks using one of those assist hook tools. For hooks I used some assist live bait type hooks I found on aliexpress that were well made and fairly cheap. Caught a bluefin on it a few weeks back in SD.

Ya I save the nice assist hooks for tuna, for rock fish this stuff is 10 bucks a roll, called microcord.

Good find on those kevlar rolls too which might be better then my nylon roll, next time lol. fun little project, its probably about 30 bucks for the materials- end up with 20 hooks or something.

Don't get your hopes to high with Trinidad. Beautiful area, but fishing can be real real slow.

Alright, you inspired me  :smt003

Not real sure about my hook selection yet. I like the owners, but they only go up to 4/0 in light wire. The 6/0 gams are heavier wire than I would like. I’ll give them a shot and see what happens. I like the lighter wire for better penetration while setting the hook in a kayak (aka not able to do it super hard).

I like the idea of that thinner wire, I do seem to have trouble setting hook sometimes and I feel like it might be worse with the new spj setup... will be fun either way tho lol

Back at it again, this time with the nicer kevlar cordage and some cheap SS hooks from amazon, looking tuna worthy tho.

The FB jig guy gave me a killer deal on some keel jigs so I stocked up. Also seeing Eddies collection gives you that itch. I'll be ready to lose some serious gear during our 5-month window next year I guess!
