My Father-in-law wants to take me on a charter trip in the bay for my birthday soon. Any recs? Was looking at Happy Hooker or Pacific Dream, but would like to hear from folks who have done a charter in the bay.

Thanks for any tips!

Doing a charter with my Dad, girlfriend, and friends next Saturday on Lovely Martha for my birthday too. I'll let ya know how it goes. Outer Limits is an awesome boat too. They used to be exclusively salmon but I think they're doing bay potluck trips now. Great top notch experience with those guys.

Outer limits is a great boat. I didn't know they were fishing the bay. I also didn't know that Jim was no longer the Captain and it's Christian's boat now. He was his deckhand for years and is a solid dude. A gentle giant. We used to do a company charter with them every year and he was real patient and helpful with the novices.

I like Gatherer Outfitters out of Berkeley.  Smaller lesser known than the other charters but the service is top notch.

Another vote for Outer Limits, who is now captained and owned by Christian, used to be the deck hand and took over from Jimmy.   But Outer Limits is on salmon mode now, so its only goes out of the gate, unless you charter the whole boat.   If you want a smaller charter, try Big C's out of Sausalito, biggest 6-pack boats that you can charter and that boat books quickly so dont wait.  Big C's / Chasing Crustacean is also owned by Christian, did I tell you I am a big fan of Christian  :smt044 Not related other than I think he burns fuels and work hard to find fish.

A lot of good choice here.  If you want to get out from Sausalito, Outer Limits, Big C's, and New Rayann (all three are usually fully booked in advance).  Out of Berkeley, New Easy Rider, and El Dorado.  I am talking about salmon trips.  If you want to stay in the bay, I would go with SF or Berkeley choices.  Tigerfish and New Huck Finn out of Berkeley are also another good boat for the inside bay.
Outer Limits is a catamaran, so its spacier and more stable than a single hull boat (this is mostly true but subjective to some).

I would check out Barbarossa Sport Fishing SF with Captain Steve of Deadliest_Kast_Fishing. This guy know his stuff. Steve makes his own Halibut rigs, last couple of times out we have hooked two fish on on rod! Been out with him a couple of times. Seems to always land quality fish even when others aren't! His deck hand has some mad skills as well! You will definitely learn a lot from that crew and have a great time. Highly recommend https://fishingbooker.com/charters/view/26595 Check him out on Instagram @Deadliest_Kast_fishing.

+1 for the New Huck Finn, I've been on the boat ~5 or 6 times now, the second through 6th they knew my name, I have no idea why but it seems they just care, they're there for hive fives, not salty comments and unwanted sarcasm, they're just class acts.

always live bait, always a great time.
