Hi everyone,
Just got a fishing kayak and am hoping to meet up with other fisherman in my area.  I live in Petaluma and have fished both Bodega and Tomales Bays.   I love fish and fishing but would have to say I am not super experienced.  I have caught salmon, crab, clams, a halibut (yum) and also have speared rockfish in my earlier spear fishing years.

I have been on boats but not a lot and must say the whole organization of space is a goal of mine and being confined to a kayak seems a challenge.

I see rockfish season is opening soon as well as salmon and would love to tag along with anyone willing to allow it.   I so far am comfortable on the water both in my kayak and on boats and am a surfer of at least 35 years so have been in some situations where I have been tested.... I have a very healthy respect of the ocean which is one of my reasons to seek out partners.

I am camping at Doran April 7th - 10th but am open to going out sooner....
I love all fish I have ever eaten and the whole nature thing.

So if any one out there would like to meet up I would love to tag along and hopefully learn more about how to safely fish from my new kayak.

Thanks
Troy :smt003

Welcome aboard. It sounds like you have some good ocean experience. Looking at Windy, it doesn't look like conditions will be good for the ocean until after the 7th anyway. Watching Windy and the tide tables, you might want to target the Bay or maybe Napa River or lakes until then. There are typically more hookups and reports available to view once you make a certain number of posts.

Enjoy your new obsession!! Try magicseaweed.com for swell forecasts. You may be checking it already for surfing. Their 7-day free ones are great, and I even splurged for the extended forecasts available with a subscription, though they can change a lot when it’s 10+ days out. Ocean conditions look a bit sketchy this weekend unless you stay on the inside somewhere like Capitola where there’s some good protection from the northerly/westerly ocean swells. There’s a wealth of information on this site, but it’s peppered across many individual posts.

Welcome to the community Troy.  I also live in Petaluma and go out at least twice per month.  I typically hit Fort Ross / Tiber cove late April for rock fish if you want to go out some time.  Tomales starts to heat up in May and Usually we hit Bodega in November for the dungees.   Let me know if you want to hit the water some time.

Hey Troy welcome. There is a good showing of us from Sonoma county so it should be easy to find some people to fish with.

As far as how to connect, keep your eyes open for posts that read something like “Hookup this place this date” or “this place this date” in the title, which will then be followed by details in the body of the post. You can also post your own hookup to get people to join.

With the marginal weather for the ocean coming up there doesn’t seem to be many people who plan on going. As conditions improve I would expect to see more hookups.

Awesome place to find folks who are heading in the same direction. As everyone is sharing, watch the wx reports and the hookups here. Always better not to go alone; however, many do and love the solitude. Tight lines. 🎣

I'll tell ya one small secret I've learned over the years being on this forum.  If the weather looks good, there will be people going out probably where you are thinking of going as well.  So look for or post up a hookup when your ready to go, and for sure someone is probably going to hit you up, or you might meet someone new at the launch site.  :smt004

Welcome to the club. I am also new to kayak fishing. Have had boats my whole life but never a kayak. Sold my bass boat in January and bought a Hobie PA 12 and having a blast at Clear Lake and building my confidence for when the time is right for Tomales Bay, Albion, Fort Bragg, Shelter Cove and every where in between and hoping to hook with with members also. Have all my ocean safety gear ready to go.

Hey Troy,

I'm kinda in the same boat as you (no pun intended). I'm new to kayak fishing as well. Have done plenty of boat fishing, avid surfer, and spearfished back in the day. Im up in Santa Rosa and mostly interested in fishing the Sonoma Coast. I cant offer you much in the way of experience, but if your looking for some extra fishing buddies, feel free to drop me a line (also no pun intended).

Rob
