Hey there guys and gals, just curious of places I could launch near carmel. I'm hoping to get to explore new water and target new species of fish this season. California sheephead is on that list. Not to mention I hear the ling fishing is pretty good also. If you have any advice I'd live to hear it.

Thanks

You could launch at beach behind Monterey Bay Kayaks (MBK) for halibut and ling. Most go to the right when heading out. Good luck  :smt006

Stillwater cove in Pebble Beach is usually a very easy launch, just watch out for the MPAs in the area.

How do you launch at Stillwater? Isn't it in the pebble beach area?

You have to pay the Pebble Beach entry fee and you can't enter until sunrise. There are some parking spots set aside for coastal access above the beach:

Love that launch. I Don’t mind paying $10.00 entry fee when you get access to hot showers after as well.

How much paddling do you want to do?  Where do you want to fish?

I've launched Carmel Beach many times.  But I dive...  Depending on the swell, I've had to swim the kayak in/out of the surf, and then you have to drag the kayak back up the sand dune.  Not fun.

If I was angling I'd park at the southernmost end of the beach and launch in the protection of the rocks.  You could also launch out of the little pocket at the north end of Carmel River State Beach, but parking isn't as easy there.

Get to Stillwater EARLY on weekends. Bring a Trout rod too for the fun factor as there are often near surface schools of Blues  and Blacks.

In the game of biggest fish, if you can't enjoy routinely gettin' your ass handed to you, by great fishermen, then you don't belong in the NCKA.
