Went out with Sara Bella early last year. Didn’t have a great time. Dragged spoons all day, breathed captain’s cigarette smoke all day, listened to his crankiness and skunked. Can’t help the last part, he did put a lot miles on the boat looking so no fault there but it was kind of a miserable experience.

I've fished with Tom on the Sara Bella quite a bit over the years.  Can't say that the previous description is off (unfortunately) but I've had good success fishing with him.  He puts in the time and burns the fuel to get you on fish.

Same here.  The guy is a fisherman and will go the distance to find fish.  If I catch a fish or two, I dont mind everything else.

Yeah…ok…I’ll take back a bit of what I said. His track record is great, I think it was just an off day. And I asked him if he had any anchovies because the radio chatter in the morning sounded like a couple fish were caught on krippled chovies and he kinda snapped at me, then we ended up skunking. He gave a good effort though. Just didn’t like the chain smoking.

Cool cool. Switching topics, has anyone gone out with Central Coast Charters? I follow them on IG and they seem to have a good vibe

You know, I am not aware of any six-pack that launches outta Monterey.  Always puzzled me.  I think there may be one outfit, but I called their number and got no response or reply. I would cover them in my newspaper fishing reports if they talke to me.  If they don't then fuck em.  Chris' does a booming business, keeps three big boats going year-round. Kahuna in Moss Landing just gave up the ghost after 30 years. H and M has a couple big  boats in Monterey and they stay busy though I don't talk to them or report on them. Again, you don't call back, it's your loss.

No six packs I know of outta Moss.  Santa Cruz has Go Fish Santa Cruz awesome boat (formerly the Doble now the Miss Beth) Outstanding skipper JT Thomas. another guy, Rodney Armstrong has been runnin Santa Cruz Coastal Fishing Charters for a few years while comercial fishing the boat as wel.  He just got a beautiful new 35-foot Maine Coaster craft and is concentrating on the charter business.  Both Rodney and JT are hardened fishermen really good. the nature of a charter business is such that soemetimes they go for easier pickings. JT will travel for sure. Rodney I don't know as well.  Curious there's no 6 pack in Monterey thogh.  Fish On with Tom Joseph is a smaller boat, very fast.  He will go as fast and and far ass necissary to get qualtiy fish. He's not there to make me comfortable.  Just his style which I kinda like.  Love his boat love the guy.  Had a few of my most epic trips on that baoat. He's also conversant with all the commercial guys from Monterey to SF who feed him info freely.
