Nice commentary on currents as it relates to fishing.

Yes Eric they do. Have them head out with Rudy and his kid in Alaska. Rudy a few years ago got a 150 plus one in Seward trolling for silver salmon in his kayak!

Last year for my group on an overnight trip we got three over 100 and three over 60. Our lone rookie only got 2 35 pounders!

I was actually thinking how feasible it would (or not) be to kayak in such ripping tides.
Not to mention this area gets hammered non stop by storms.

Doesn't look stormy - looks flatter than 99% of ocean days here.

I too started fantasizing about a kayak adventure up there. I really enjoyed the 4 day trip I took a few years ago with my father and brothers. I have to remind myself how lucky we got with weather, 4/4 days fishable. That said, fishable on a 32’ catamaran is quite a bit different than in a 12’ kayak. Oh, and those currents! I wonder how the guys that do kayak fish the area plan trips and cope with extreme tides, current, weather etc…

Imagine one day with favorable conditions in that fishery… That’s the stuff dreams are made of!

I actually saw a few more videos and wow, these guys land 50+lb halibut on an outback. But they stay in coves, or more like fiords. And they use harpoons connected to big inflatable buoys to secure their catch. And they basically tow the fish to shore. Crazy

Here's one in Homer with looks like Malibu Stealths...

https://www.justaddwateralaska.com/adventures/alaska-kayak-fishing-adventures/

This is a great business.  We had a deposit down on a trip for summer 2020 and you can guess what happened to that trip...  :smt011

Ask them about their Tutka bay accommodations and kayak fishing combos.  It all sounded amazing and is still on the list.

Homer area halibut. Sea kayak fishing. 135 pounds was the largest. Overnight 25 mile paddle from Homer. Camp on the beach then return 25 miles with filets. Other good spots in the Cook inlet with less of a paddle. Not me doing the catching. My speed is Tbay fish.

Stealth Kayaks AK, run by Jody Michael Breen.  He just set up and I don’t think he has a web presence yet.  I can connect anyone interested in hearing more.

I’m definitely interested, but I think it will be for the ‘23 season due to current schedule
