Hello,

I recently have the privilege of working on Tomales bay and plan on bringing my kayak with me on Fridays to fish after work. I know it is still early for T bay but was wondering if anybody had early season success in the past in the inner bay vs outer bay? Trying to decide between Marconi vs Miller launch. Thank you. FYI, water temperature is still at 51 degrees so not there yet temperature-wise.

This early in the season, you want to go deep inside the bay.  Even try going down to Millerton.  Finding bait balls will be the ticket.  Wherever there in bait, you’ll find the fish.

I've always heard that the inner bay heats up first, but with smaller fish. I've never had any luck early in the season so take that for what it's worth. And someone caught a keeper around the mouth of the bay in late January, so who knows? I'm out there dragging frozen anchovies once a week or so - it's close to home, the scenery is nice, it's exercise, and someone has to catch the first one of the season, might as well be me. I haven't seen anyone else fishing in the bay yet though.

Edit: saw simplycook's reply, which reminded me that I haven't seen any bait yet either.

Yeah your best bet would be the back bay. Ive had limited success in march, mostly from Inverness to Shell. If you see the pb's cutting laps there, you might get lucky. Green or chartreuse dodger with a anchovy seems to be popular early on in the back. Another option you could try would be in from the houses to Cypress in Marshall. Good luck and maybe ill see you out there!

I haven't taken it out yet, it's too long for the bed of my pickup! Roof bars are supposed to be delivered tomorrow so I hope to get it out on the water this weekend.

Thanks dudes. I'm just antsy and seeing the water from work everyday is torture not being on it and fishing haha. Just want to scratch that itch. I'll report back when I make it out.

I'm all loaded up in the truck. Wind permitting, I'll be out on the water tomorrow afternoon. If anybody else is around and interested, I'll probably be launching from Marconi around 3:30ish.
