Had made a bunch of hoochies and spinners and stored them in zip lock bags and thought that was a good way to keep them.  Then I went to use them recently and found that the plastic beads and the hoochies, and even some of the leader line has sort of melted. :smt009  So I dumped them all out, cut them all up and re-used what I could and now have a new set of hoochies and spinners to use (and more than this as well  :smt044 )

I like making them a little too much, so I re-stocked on all the supplies and got to work.  Looking forward to trying them next weekend  :smt003

Any tips on storing them would be appreciated!

Jig and leader board. Place in a small tackle box. Spinner bait boxes work really well for the smaller sized boards.

Same concept but I just use leftover pieces of pipe insulation I have laying around the house.  Big plus is if you are clumsy and drop it while on the water it will float!

Looks good Al!  I used to do the same stuff until I found out those hoochies would melt everything after some time.  Just keep the hoochie from touching the beads and it should be ok.

I’ve had melted beads before and didn’t realize the hoochies were the problem. Are there any melt-proof beads?

I am not 100% certain but I think its some reaction from the hoochie plastic, not the bead.  Kind of like when you put a swimbait touching a deep six diver, it'll melt the crap out of it.

Yeah it did seem to be the hoochie material melting the beads and even the line.  I think that I'll just plan on tearing them all down and tossing the hoochies after a season if they look compromised.  Then rebuild them again when I need them.  But there was one hoochie that didn't melt, and i'm puzzled by that.  I'm not sure how long it takes for the melting to occur, but these hoochies and spinners are probably 3 years old stored in ziplock bags.

Not sure on the brand. I’ve picked up a few as well as used foam I had laying around. I really need to get my stuff ready for the fishing season!

Here is what I’m currently using. It’s a Plano deep waterproof box without dividers. I’ve also used a Plano spinnerbait box, but didn’t like it not being waterproof.

I feel like once I stopped storing them in ziploc baggies they stopped melting, but I can’t actually confirm that.

Not that I know anything of chemical engineering or even what that means  :smt044 but I think you could be right, that enclosing them in plastic might be a big part of the cause.  I like your setup and think I'll try it, and probably will forget a few and will see what happens  :smt005  I also need to use waterproof containers, as my AI always has water in the rear tank well with my crate, which I drilled holes in it so it drains if swamped.  I didn't use one on my last outing and got a whole bunch of packages of hooks all wet.  Had to figure out a way to dry out all the pouches again and lost a few hooks to rusting. Have a couple new ones on order to try out, will see how it goes.   :smt004

I did have all the hoochies in a ziplock so that could be it.

But I still think there is something about the reaction with soft plastics in general.  One day after fishing, I just dumped all my stuff in a bucket to rinse later.  Days later, the big hammer swimbait and deep6 diver melted together.

Hum, someone on the board must understand what is happening, have a lot of smart folks and people that pour baits.  Might start a new topic on this, as I have had plenty of stuff melt together over time like Won mentioned.

Me too, so that could be it.

Are there glass beads? That would certainly solve the problem...
