After fixing my car, I decided to paint it. So, I stripped off all of the plastic do-dads, weather stripping, and so on. Then I sanded, degreased, power washed, and power washed again (and again and again...). I was just going to rattle can paint it, but now I'm wondering if it might be worth getting a real paint job.

Can anybody recommend a car painter nearby (I'm in the Santa Cruz mountains) that might take on a job like this for a reasonable price?

I don't like stuff that sucks.

I don't know anyone down that way, but whatever you do, don't rattle can it. lol. At the vey least get a cheap gun from harbor freight and spray it with a cheap single stage car paint. Or take it to Maaco/Earl Schiebe. You've already done the hard part, don't screw it up now.

There's a lot of discussion online about the pros and cons of rattle can, and also a lot on cheap Maaco paint jobs. I'd prefer to take my chances on a DIY rattle can approach, as compared to Maaco, as the latter seems too hit-and-miss.

I retract my earlier statement. I was unaware of the color choice. That looks awesome. Carry on!

Will you be using 3m reflecting tape? For racing stripes?

Due to the cold weather, I had to wait a while to finish painting. It's nearly done, just a couple of minor things remain. The vertical surfaces all turned out pretty nice, but the horizontal surface (roof and hood) are not so good. I don't care much about the roof, but might take the hood off at some point and paint it black (you know, like the song says, "I see an orange hood, And I want it painted black...").

As long as you don't end up painting a confederate flag on the roof, think it's turning out pretty good  :smt005  Do you do body work and painting for old ass 4Runners?  :smt044

Lovin’ it!  That color brings life.  My dad has an orange tree and after 40 years,  give or take, this season was a complete abundance!  Not that the instances are related.  Must feel great to have a renewal from all your work into this… :smt006
