With some of the inland areas turning on I'm getting crappie fever. My in-laws live in Pleasanton which is a nice layover from a day spent fishing the south delta area. However, I've never fished the delta, and I have absolutely no idea where to start. My suspicion is that some of the backwater areas might be warming up soon and would have less tidal influence than locations closer to Bethel Island. Hoping for a bit of Intel around Discovery Bay area -- is the crappie fishing good around there?

Hi mbwaterdog,

Didn't see anyone reply, so I guess I'll give my 2 cents. Crappie in the delta are damn hard to find. There is no consistency and the schools move around a lot. I've had some success by Whiskey Slough, but most of my catches have been farther north. You need to find areas that are relatively close to deep (+15ft) water with structure.

Discovery bay is fun for nonstop bluegill/redears and schoolie stripers when the shad are around. There's also some catfish if you like soaking bait.

For a consistent crappie bite, go to Clear Lake or Berryessa.

Port o Sac was once good for crappie, but i'm pretty crappie at catching crappie and haven't tried there in years.  Bluegills I agree are easier to find, and can be huge in the delta!  Kiet fried them up at Tikki Lagoon, and it was awesome!  :smt003
