I'll be interested in a post-trip report; climate, water temps, kayak fishing opportunities, cost of accommodations, etc. Winter there, or in an area like that may be in my future.
Thanks

We were there Feb. of 2020.  We went to see the whales in Magdalena Bay.   Was windy.   We stayed in Loreto a couple days before and a couple after.  We stayed at the https://villadelpalmarloreto.com/. Was okay, but a distance from town.   Has golf course.  Seemed as if was reasonable from my memory.   Tour the original mission downtown, great museum connected.   Lobster and Chocolate clams are reasonable and tasty.   Is only about 90 miles to Mag. bay and the whales.  You might even get to pet one.  We used Magdalena Bay Whales for the whale tour.  Two of us on the panga, but there are bigger boats.  Did not fish as the wind was up bad.  Did try some shore casting at the resort.  There are some nice restaurants downtown, but limited near the resort.  We used the golf club restaurant and the pizza place.  The report had some kayaks.

In Feb you will likely target large Yellowtail, Pargo and Cabrilla, but the Sierra and Roosterfish are also in.

We usually fish with Capt. Alehandro of Panchos Sport fishing. I made this garbage years ago - Get out paper and pen because I leave phone numbers on the screen PANCO HAS A FREEZER:

Ferre-Mar De Loreto has good tackle.  Its in a real Mexican neighborhood, so get directions before you walk over there unless you speak Spanish, then you will be fine.  Loreto is in general a peaceful safe town.  Watch for the kids in plaid walking to Catholic school as you head toward the Marina in the dark of morning.  You will know it's peaceful there!  Ah sweet tears of fond memories just hit me....

If you want to fly fish; La Pamala is the master in Loreto but her husband fishes conventional and is also a master.  Pamala writes back quickly:

Juan Murillo of the Baja Queen is a dam good fisherman and speaks English:  I only have his cell:
613 105 4858  Remember to use the country code first.

Mijito Sportfishing is the most reputable, but I've only seen them fish and chatted with them on the water.  They know what they are doing.  https://www.mijitosportfishing.com/

If you haven't booked a hotel La Damiana is walking distance to everything including the Marina.  See my Youtube video above for more on that.

If you want to know more about the ins and outs of Loreto, PM me and I'll fill you in.

Fish hard, eat clams, smile!!!

Hi Everyone

Fishing in Loreto did not disappoint. I went out on two separate days with Jacinto, owner of Jazive Sportfishing:

https://www.facebook.com/JaziveI/

Day 1
super calm waters and a sunny warm day. FOUR yellowtails, a few Cabrillo, a Pinto, and a Sheepshead.

Day 2
Cooler weather and choppier waters. A MUCH quieter bite. One Yellowtail (largest of both days) and one Cabrillo.

For those interested, the cost to rent the boat/captain for a day was $350 USD including gear, licenses and bait for two anglers. Oh...fileting too. The boat could have easily accommodated four people for about the same price, adjusted for licenses and bait.

I brought a brand new, larger-than-anticipated Foodsaver. The captain bought it from me so I didn't have to lug it back with the 60lbs of fish. Next time I'll bring a little hanging scale to make sure my cooler stays under the 50lb limit. I had to pay extra for my 10lbs overage.
