Underwater footage, lingcod bite

A couple months ago I was out on my kayak in Santa Cruz using an underwater camera above a fresh dead mackerel. I didn’t catch anything so I assumed nothing was on the video. Today I happened to review it and saw a cool interaction with a small lingcod. I know the bait is big compared to the lingcod but it is interesting that after it takes a hold of the mackerel it just holds it for a little bit without trying to swallow it.

He stalked it and went for the head shot. I would bet he would have swallowed it and been a happy fish if there wasn’t line and hooks in the way!
